About
In the neighbourhood of San Telmo it is located the most classic house of tango of all times, El Viejo Almacén. It offers shows since 1969 and preserves the architecture and atmosphere of tango culture. The house has a unique magic in which the cultural barrier between different nationalities ceases to exist and we all joined by one of the greatest expressions of any culture: the language of music. It has a proposal of Dinner & Show, with a menu of international cuisine a la carte and an extensive wine cellar with the best national wines. Then, any member of the public is delighted with an excellent show of tango composed by prestigious dancers, the famous Quintet of El Viejo Almacén and two highly recognized national singers, who play some of the traditional songs of tango´s history. The most acclaimed tango show in the world accompanied by fine cuisine, recalls the bygone era of tango and takes us back to times of outlaws and suburbs in the ground where tango has its roots ... Buenos Aires.

The area
Neighbourhood: San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.

We selected this option having seen many reviews about Tango shows and were not disappointed.

We had already booked a dinner that evening, so chose for the show option only.

We arrived and were immediately seated at our table. There is not a bad view in the house. We were given our first of 2 drinks and settled in to watch the show.

While the stage itself is small, they manage to get a lot of people on it at once and they are all top notch. The evening begins with a video that tells you all about the history of the building itself and when the Tango began there.

The dancers were fantastic and full of energy. There was also a lovely lady who sang, a couple who performed drumming, tapping and an unusual performance with "clackers' on strings. Very hard to describe, but unbelievable to watch. The orchestra was just incredible. Especially the pianist.

The energy in the room was palpable. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just when we thought it was over, an older gentlemen appeared who was obviously a national treasure. Think Dean Martin or Tony Bennet. He was fantastic!

I cannot recommend this show enough. You will not be disappointed.

Old school tango place in San Telmo. Small charming place, the show contained everything from Tango to boleadores and the legendary Hugo Marcel

The whole evening was very well done. Hotel pick up was right on time in a comfortable mini-bus. Dinner exceeded my expectations with delicious food and great service in an attractive restaurant. There were separate tables for each party, so you don't have to sit with strangers at long tables, as they do in some other dinner/tango show venues. The salad was fresh, steak was very tasty and cooked just as I ordered it and the flan was outstanding. I had a full bottle of wine at my table for one. After dinner, we walked across the street to a historic tango theater, where seats were pre-assigned with small cocktail tables. Two drinks were included. The show was wonderful. The dancers and musicians were highly skilled. After the show, the transportation was waiting outside the theater to return gusts to their hotels. I boarded a cruise ship the next day and heard a lot of people complain about food at the dinner/ tango shows they attended. I was glad that I had picked El Viejo Almacen, because it was a real winner. I highly recommend this venue.

Dinner from 20.30 was good in the restaurant next door. Our show started at 22.00 and finished 23.30. Absolutely outstanding tango night with excellent traditional live musicians. Shuttle pickup and dropff at our hotel worked fine. Definitely recommend.

DO NOT TRUST these people. We bought VIP tickets and were stuck in the worst seats possible. False advertisement of VIP tickets benefits.

Lovely evening of tango.
We had a very good meal and service although it was v quiet and lacked ambience.
Having said that the show was intimate and so good and I’d recommend it😊

Fantastic show, every part of the experience was really enjoyable, lovely waiter who spoke good English, excellent food choice and a really good show...a bit cheesy in parts but that added to the entertainment. The dancing was brilliant, there are a series of acts and the show went really quickly even though it was 2 hours long. The volume of free drinks probably contributed to the enjoyability! The transport to and from your hotel is a bonus and very well organised. They will send you a pickup time a few hours before on the night to get you to the restaurant by 8pm.

This was such a great show! We had dinner at Crizia (7:30 reservation was delicious) and then pick up at 9:20 for the show which was all perfect timing. We took 4 kids ages 9-18. So entertaining and the history behind the building and dance culture was way better than imagined! We had dessert at the show- also highly recommend. Lovely people and evening!
