We visited twice during our stay in Buenos Aires. Once at 4PM the locals were strutting around the floor. What a sight! A full mix of ages, the local Portenos were there having a lovely afternoon. Later in our visit we went at about mid...More

We went there on a Friday night with a local to see what the milonga scene in BA was like. We arrived at 11pm and the tango lesson( weekly lessons before the milonga starts) was still going on so we saw the teachers demonstrating to...More

We have been coming to Buenos Aires for several years and always stay two months, which gives us plenty of time to dance in at least a dozen dance halls each time. This ranks near the top of my list for several reasons. Remember that...More

Canning is the one sure bet in the carousel of BA tango. The etiquette is clear though relaxed and the Argentinians (or Portenos) are polite and respectful to all who behave well. The quality of the music and the demonstrations is good. The djs know...More

There are a few good tango clubs that are recommended by the tango maestros in New York. The best of these is Salón Canning, which is located in Palermo Viejo. They offer tango classes, which precede the evening milonga. The dance floor is large and...More

A tango dancehall for locals. Opens 11 p.m. and looks like it could continue till dawn. Very few tourists, but welcoming. Fascinating observation of social mores. Recorded music on the night we were there. Drinks and snacks available - wine-by-the-glass pretty mediocre! Otherwise, highly recommended.

You should really try a Milongo there; de rigueur as we say (a 'must'!) to complete your tango experience in BA.

This is not tango with glitz and glamor. This is the real thing for locals- aging from 40 to 80. You can just as easily see a 38 year old woman dancing with a 73 year old man as with a 40 year old. It...More

I believe it is 3:00pm. Check the milonga listing at hoy-milonga for exact time. This is their only milonga that is not packed like sardines so it is relaxed and very enjoyable.

I don't have a pic, unfortunately, but had no problem finding the place from address: Av. Raúl Scalabrini Ortiz 1331 . Street numbers are scarce enough in the area - but it's not difficult. Enjoy!
