Neighbourhood: San Nicolás
Immersed in the sound of honking horns and the footsteps of busy office workers, the Microcentro area of San Nicolás is where visitors will encounter the true hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires, walking down streets lined with office buildings and banks. The financial district is well-known for its vibrant atmosphere and unstoppable rhythm during office hours. Avenida Corrientes is said to be the widest street in the world with 16 lanes. My wife and I rode down the avenue several times as we took Ubers to a tango show, the San Telmo flea market, Teatro Colon and to the airport. I would describe it as the beating heart of BA.

A classic sightseeing when in BA, offers many bars, restaurants, shops, and some nice buildings. Good for a walk, there are also many lateral streets that offer alternatives both for food and sightseeing’s. We were there for Jan 1st and almost everything was close

I find this street to be more vibrant than Avenue de Mayo. There are more shops and restaurants, and a little higher end. I also like the statues of a few famous Argentinians.

Avenida Corrients is one of downtown Buenos Aires main streets. If you are around you might as well walk along it. There is the opera building, theaters, commercial shops and actor's stars and names on the sidewalk. it ends up in the obelisk. You can dedicate an hour or so to walk up and down.

There are some great shows not to be missed. Stroll around the theater district and pick out the shows you would like to see. Next to the Teatro Colon, there is a 50% off ticket booth for same day shows. If Stravaganza is playing, don't miss it. One of Flavio Mendoza's best.

This is the heart of the city and at night half of the road is pedestrianised ....they should have pedestrianised ALL of the road. It is lined by theatres, cafes and restaurants and on Saturday night is heaving! Ideal if you like people-watching and crowds!

The government changed the avenue a little. Now its safer to walk around, you can actually walk, enjoy some ice-cream and all the other theaters and stores that are located on the avenue.

This avenue was witness to Tango's golden era and is regarded as the heart of BA nightlife. It is literally the street that never sleeps with loads of bars, theatres, and bookstores. Stop for a slice of pizza

Corrientes is one of the city's main arteries. It intersects 9 de Julio Avenue at the Obelisco and is famous for its pizzerias, theatres and bookshops. This avenue truly never sleeps! On Saturday and Sundays, half of Avenida Corrientes becomes pedestrian so you can stroll and take pictures without having to dodge cars and buses! This bustling road is also famous for its pizza shops which are open 24/7 and offer the cheese overload pizza so dear to porteños.

Corrientes is a huge Avenue - the only remotely nice area is close (I mean 4-5 blocks) from the Obelisque. Small streets, cheap shops, and definitely not the best architecture in Buenos Aires. Beware if you're walking on the streets between Palacio Barrolo and this avenue - most are in disrepair and not worth the 30 minute hike, and I would definitely not recommend being caught there at night time.
