Excellent 1000 year old castle to explore
Wonderful ancient castle ruins you can just wander around; no guards, no fee. We walked around pretty much all of it, on the ramparts and in the gardens. The gardens are particularly impressive with many fruit trees. The Convent was not open when we were there (July 2023); they were doing significant renovations, apparently. The parking lot is quite small. There is a pay station, which we missed but luckily did not get a ticket. We had decent sandwiches from the little cafe; much better than most museum cafes in the US.

    Impressive!
This world heritage place is worth a visit. It was the second time I visited this place, the first time was almost 30 years ago. The place is still impressive, it was only a pity that in some parts they were working.

    Enjoy these ruins
The castle is basically in ruins and thus not as complete as the adjacent Convento do Cristo. It’s worth a brief visit but don’t come to Tomar planning a lengthy visit here. Make it a part of your visit to the Convento do Cristo and you’ll feel satisfied.

Wonderful one of a kind site.
Absolutely amazing site. The Templar church was definitely the highlight. So intensely covered with paintings and statuary, very unusual. The monestary was surprisingly interesting, in large part because it was well signed. It doesn't take much to tell English speakers the significance of what they are looking at, and I very much appreciated it.

We visited Tomar castle as part of a tour with Jump in Tours. It is one of the most beautiful and interesting castles I have seen on my many European adventures. I. highly recommend it and our guide António.

Little remains of the castle, but walking along the remaining wall was still fun. From one portion of the wall one is afforded a good view of the convent exterior. If visiting the convent one may as well visit the castle. It is free.

My family thoroughly enjoyed this castle in Tomar. Lots of nooks and crannies to enjoy. You can walk the castle walls. Free entry is a bonus. Right next to the convent which is beautiful.

Parts of the castle are in ruins but most of it are well maintained with guard rails along the ramparts making it safe to roam around the castle walls. Views of the castle and of the town below are just gorgeous.

Abit hard to understand. They newscasts audio guide even if they charge a small surcharge that or more information signs.

This Templar castle is incredibly historical and in fabulous shape after more than 1,000 years. We did a tuk tuk tour of the castle which was really informative. The castle is a bit of a walk up a step incline, but not a bad walk if you are in ok shape. Besides the interior, the grounds and particularly the wall walks are also fun and interesting.
