This is well worth a couple of hours in central Stellenbosch. It gives a clear picture of the lifestyle of wealthy families over a 200 year period. It also provides some balance with a detailed presentation of the slave trade in SA. Each house has a guide on hand to explain what is going on. Very inexpensive (35 Rand) and... More

For the entrance fee of 35 rand you are invited to visit four houses typical of the residences of the city from 1690 to 1870. In each house is a guide dressed in a costume typical of those worn in the house being visited. The guides are more than happy to answer any questions that you may have. The first... More

This museum covers 4 old houses that have been lovingly maintained and reflect different eras of the town. Each house had a staff member on hand in costume to answer questions. Unfodtunately one of the guides proved unhelpful slightly spoiling the visit. Good value.

If you only have a short time in Stellenbosch then this is a must do. You will see 4 houses which show how life in the town developed between 1710 and 1870. Each house has a lady host dressed in the costume of the period who tells you about the house, who lived there and what life was like. The... More

Four historical houses, close to each other, beautifully preserved and presented. Fascinating to see the development of the home over 200 years (and notable for the fact that the kitchen hardly changed!). The ladies that greet you at each house in period costume were all charming. A lovely, gentle hour or so taking you back to a different age. Glad... More

A very interesting showcase of the real original four homes built on that block over a period of 200 years as well as a short history of Stellenbosch. An amazing progression from the first to the last home.

This small museum is worth a visit. It is centrally located in Stellenbosch and readily accessible. It provides some good history in relation to the local area.

We went to the museum as part of the wine tour. The museum as 4 different style houses with guides dressed in period costume. The furniture was of the period to with Dutch influence. A really nice museum with excellent guides.
