About
Hidden Valley Wines offers spectacular wines, breathtaking views, olives & olive oil, charcuterie & cheese platters, picnics, a nature trail. This secluded farm perched on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains in Stellenbosch, boasts a magnificent cellar among its pristine vineyards. Although the winery is a state-of-the-art, gravity fed cellar, it is nestled into the side of the slope and intended to blend back into the environment in time. The building materials, namely stone, wood and glass are purposely selected to present a contemporary yet functional structure. The cellar is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, almond orchards and natural vegetation, each occupying an integral part of the farm’s ecosystem. Sustainable agriculture is a common theme in every approach both in and outside the cellar. The Wine Tasting Centre is open 7 days a week - we invite you to join us.

Could only stop for a short while so didn’t experience a full tasting, but we sat on the deck area by the water and enjoyed their Champagne which was lovely.

Toured the wine region and stopped at Hidden Valley Wines. The scenery is beautiful, service by Ruhan was very good. Tasted some wines and bought a bottle to enjoy at our hotel.

It is a real shame to have to have to resort to leaving a poor rating for Hidden Valley Wines however, after 9-months of requesting (without success) that I have a deposit returned, I have been left with little choice.

In February 2020 I paid a deposit to Hidden Valley Wines and reserved their Bush Lodge for 2-nights in December of that year. Obviously COVID hit the world soon thereafter however and as the stay was planned ahead of my wedding in SA, I kept in touch with HVW and deferred the trip firstly to 2021 and subsequently to 2022.

When world travel re-opened, I contacted HVW in June 2022 to confirm the booking however, I was informed that at some point my booking had been double booked to another group.

Understanding that these things can happen, I requested (on the 19th of June 2022) the return of my deposit (£384 at the time booked or the equivalent of 7,400 ZAR).

In the 9-months since my original request, I have regularly emailed Hidden Valley Wines politely requesting an update on the return of my deposit, with them giving various reasons (including that the farm had been sold in November 2021) for the deposit not being processed and returned.

The last communication I had from HVW was in November last year. I have emailed on two further occasions but am yet to receive either a response or have my deposit returned.

Having visited Hidden Valley Wines several times between 2011 and 2019 and again with a group of friends in December 2022, it seems that in terms of customer service, the sale of the farm has been of detriment to the "experience" of what is an otherwise stunning location, where the customer experience was always of importance.

Poor show Hidden Valley Wines....

We took an Uber and thought it was closed when we arrived; it had just opened so it wasn't busy at all. Had a hard time getting service. We tried some of the wine (bit pricey) but were not offered a menu at all so we decided to leave. We noticed the seating area / BBQ by the lake which would've been nice, but we left since we were underwhelmed with the wine and service. We asked the server if we could walk to the neighboring winery (instead of Uber) and she said yes, no problem - but the directions she gave were no accurate AT ALL and it was NOT walkable. (Perhaps she was mad we were leaving?)

The establish is beautiful! It is in a beautiful location. The staff is friendly and we received a variety of wines with their wine and chocolate pairing. I am not a wine connoisseur so I can’t speak to how good they are. It was a pleasure experience overall.

The Deck is situated on a picturesque wine estate overlooking a dam and up into the olive orchards and wine vineyards, with the Helderberg mountain as a backdrop. The cashier was polite & friendly but regrettably the meal was substandard. The bun was stale on both burgers, my beef patty was over cooked and the edges too charred to eat. The chips looked fresh but must have been cooked in old oil as they tasted awful. At R145 a burger one would expect better. The cashier was apologetic and offered to do something to assist but it was an empty offer as nothing followed. Gaviscon needed for the indigestion.
