A real view into a past life and for us additionally interesting as it has one of the oldest synagogues in South Africa. Also an interesting exhibit on the 500 children who were sent to South Africa during the second world war from Poland via siberia. All in all well worth a visit - leave an hour. We didn't have... It was interesting to walk through this old home with the original rooms and furnishings. The homes represent the riches of owners who built their fortunes on ostrich farming and feathers.

The CP Nel Museum offers the visitor a good idea of how the "good old times" were when the feathers of the ostrich were still weighed up with gold... Clothing, furniture from those times are displayed and the "otstrich age" is put brilliantly into perspective. A highlight in Oudtshoorn!

I had an hour to spare, and went to the museum. Beautiful well preserved sneak preview into the opulence of the past, of Ostich Barons and their way of life. Worth a visit as well as the R20 entrance fee.

History and artifacts of early Jewish migrants to this area of special interest. Staff were most helpful and solicitous. Only negative, and a minor one, as that the premises could have been a little less dusty.

I wasn't sure what to expect as there were a number of older negative comments. I believe they predate the renovations. The room on the ostriches was very informative, including the involvement of Jewish merchants in the business.

Not only the building but also the well decorated rooms provides you with a superb insight of life in Oudtshoorn during the early years. Many artifacts has been kept in good condition and also the Synagogue inside, which is still in use, is unique.

Absolutely amazing experience. The museum is well-run and in pristine condition, as are the artifacts. It provides a thorough look-back at the heritage of Oudtshoorn, so that one feels transported in time. Items pertain to various period facets of life, from ostrich farming to medicines, clothing to automobiles/transport, coins and stamps to household gadgetry. This museum is a definite must-see...
