We stayed in a Villa overlooking the Lagoon, which is not really a lagoon but an estuary, and the views were stunning. The 'lagoon' is tidal so it is never the same twice. It really is a place to at least visit at the least but I would advise a stay of at least a couple of days.

Fantastic place, only black mark is the small nature reserve which is overrun with unleashed maltese poodles and their entitled owners..

We crossed the lagoon by boat but also drove to The Heads and both experiences are not to be missed, if you are in the area. A spectacular place where you can spend a lot of time - and don't forget the Waterfront - very lively with plenty of good eating and the wine is so cheap but good.

The traffic in Knysna can get really heavy in January holiday season, it wasn't too bad the days we drove through though. The lagoon is scenic, the highlight for me was my first baboon sighting on the road back towards Brenton on Sea.

The Leisure Island area is probably the best area. Thesen Island has some nicely located restaurants, but the food isn't up to much, in our experience. The Featherbed walk (reviewed separately) is worth doing, too

There a number of places to view this tidal lagoon change character during the day. We were staying on Leisure Island so saw the changes slowly emerge. Good swimming spots from the island

This is a beautiful tidal lagoon good for children and elderly at low tide and good for other swimmers at high tide

What a special place - and there are many ways to enjoy it. By boat is the most obvious and there are many options, from owning a boat, to paddling and canoeing (all of which can be hired at reasonable costs), to regular ferry and other commercial services. Or you can simply walk along it's shores or marvel at its... More
