Close to the centre of Hermanus this peaceful free to the public Nature Reserve has nice displays of proteas, succulents, aloes and fynbos linked by pathways in need of a little attention – pleasant grassed picnic areas – plenty of descriptive signage – clean rest rooms but no refreshment facilities - this is all at the entrance gate – the... What a privelage to have these trails available to explore the beauty and details of the fynbos close up. Enjoyed the tranquility and scenic views. Found the trail easy to walk - will explore longer trail on next trip. Various trails to walk from easy/beginner to more challenging/advanced routes. Routes are clearly marked - route maps also available from information... More

Fernkloof is a must visit if you enjoy nature. We went there primarily for birding and to enjoy walking in the fynbos, with lovely views of the sea in the distance. So all the exquisite tiny flowers that we saw along the way was an unexpected bonus. Allow yourself at least a couple of hours to explore the reserve, or... More

Feel part of nature in this paradise. Good walks in a safe and picturesque environment. Also educational to learn the names if the indigenous plants. A must for any nature loving person.

The most beautiful place to hike, stroll, jog or mountain bike. Trails ranging from very easy to more advanced and equally suited for children and adults. The fynbos is magnificent and the views over Walker Bay, breath taking. This afternoon I saw a pair of Black Eagles circling up above. There are resident mongooses, tortoises, francolins, chameleons, baboons and guinea... More

This nature reserve on the outskirts of the Hermanus urban area is family friendly with loads of different trail options to suit the kids, granny or fit adults. The paths are well maintained and sign posted. The maps apparently not so good according to people we have passed while hiking. There is an overview of the reserve trails at the... More

We have hiked in this nature reserve on many occasions. It offers a variety of circular hikes and walks of different lengths. Most are characterised by low gradients and large portions follow semi-contour paths, so are suitable for the occasional and less fit hikers. Although these hills can be approached from different places from within Hermanus, I recommend to start... More

Fernkloof is just outside Hermanus, and far enough away to be very quiet. It is well maintained by the municipality and a perfect place for a picnic on the well-kept lawns under the trees. There are no costs which is amazing!

The view of the lovely town of Hermanus- from the top of the cliffs in the Fernkloof Nature reserve. Wonderful wild flowers sprouting into spring with the late flowering proteas still to be seen . It is a must visit for anyone travelling through Hermanus .
