When we showed up for our tour, the staff members were rude and unhelpful. It took them a long time to find enough life vests for everyone. By the time we boarded the boat, all of the seats were taken. They tried to tell us to sit in the front with the skipper, but there was no space and it... More

Out of the three whale watching companies at the Hermanus Harbour, this was are third choice but sadly Southern Right were fully booked and Whale Watching were having technical difficulties. After a land based safety briefing and mad scramble for life jackets, we boarded the boat. The boat didn't seem as exciting as the catamarans but we did get a... More

I had read a lot of reviews before going on the tour and a lot of people talking about the choppy water, but to be fair you are going on a boat to see whales it's going to be choppy. We left on time, got safety talk, they let us know where whales were at all times (we seen six).

Our nine AM tour only departed at 10h45 because of technical issue. We learned while waiting that the defect was discovered the day before but that the mechanic would only be available in the morning. Despite knowing this well in advance the mechanic only showed up after scheduled departure time rather then making an early start. While waiting we were... More

We are the lucky ones. Though the weather was quite cloudy, but we got to see some whales. There were even two that swam close to our boat and right underneath us. We did see some seals too. The tour started with a safety briefing at the New Harbour. It was very organised and informative during the briefing. There were... More

We visited at the beginning of November and were a little bit nervous that the whales might have moved on, but we were very lucky because we found a mom and baby! We headed out on slightly rough seas, but you don't even notice it because of the excitement of what's to come! we eventually pulled up to another boat... More

Our hostel booked this up for us the day before we were supposed to go on this trip at 9am, get there nice and early 8:15 to be told our names were not down so we drive back to the hostel and the lad tried ringing them but they weren't answering the phone! We decided to go back down there... More

Organised and safety conscious operation. The guy doing the commentary was excellent and had a good sense of humour. We got to see a number of whales and a mother and calf very close up so no complaints there. Whole event was under two hours so could perhaps have been slightly longer although we saw what we came for. Would... More

I suppose if you are in Hermanus in October then you have to go whale watching, but it’s really nothing special. >2 hours just to see the back of a whale and a calf for 10 minutes, all for R1400 for 2 = £35/head - expensive by SA standards. We had a better viewing by chance in Table Bay on... More

I rated this activity as average, because Hermanus lives to its reputation of best land-based whale watching in the world so well, that you don't really need to get onto a boat to get great views of the whales, especially considering that as the boats are not allowed to navigate in the bay itself (which is where most of the...
