I joined one of the free walking tours around the Bo-Kaap and found it very interesting to hear the history behind these beautiful coloured houses. Without a tour guide to explain the area to you there probably isn't much of interest once you've taken a...More

Best to visit a cape malay home and hear the stories of living during the early apartheid years from the locals themselves. It is vibrant with colourful houses and friendly people and if you lucky you will get some traditional bobotie.

easy walk from the main streets of Capetown, very many colourful houses with a great history of Malay forebears.

The houses are pretty and colourful and make for an interesting backdrop but that is all that there is.

A neighborhood very picturesque and typical of Cape Town. We went by taxi, and once there, we walked until we reached the Green Market, to do all the shopping, as we were told that there is where to bargain.

This was across the road from our hotel ( Hilton Cape Town) so easy to see at different times of the day ( and different lights). Really only a few streets - not all that interesting - wouldn't travel across town for it

This area has the colorful houses that you often see in postcards for Cape Town. Take a walk around if you can.

We spent a couple of hours on one of the free walking tours offered from Cape Town. Great, knowledgeable guide who shared so much of the history and culture. Interesting and picturesque neighborhood to say the least.

There are many excellent upmarket accommodation options like the Hilton as mentioned in other posts. If this is the accommodation type you require I would stay in more touristy areas such as the Waterfront and commute to... More

The question is dated some time ago so I hope it is still relevant. I would do a cooking course in the bo-kaap in the kitchen of one of the local ladies. Great fun and you can sample the results. More information on... More
