Amazing monument to a man who who was influential in the shaping of South Africa. A very rich man who gave generously to good causes and still provides Rhodes scholarships to Oxford University for students of English speaking Countries. Very impressive with wonderful views of Cape Town, he appears now to be a controversial figure but is part of South... More

The Rhodes Memorial commands an impressive view of the city below and the grounds are lovely...the memorial itself is impressive..yes there is some slightly stupid damage done by vandals but be sure it does not take away from the impressiveness of this formidable memorial. It is surrounded by beautiful forests and there is a popular restaurant adjacent. It was not... More

An enlightening experience to visit and understand the man who shaped the economy of South Africa. One of the richest men in his time, when he died at 49, he discovered the first diamonds at Kimberly and owned most of the area around Cape Town. Had no idea that North Rhodesia (Namibia) and South Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) were named after him,... More

If the authorities are not going to police behaviour here they should close the memorial to the public. Protesters have urinated in front of the main monument staining the granite. There is a stale smell as a result of this. They have burned the nose from the bust. It is almost as if the South African authorities are condoning this... More

The view from here is outstanding. Bring your camera ! And your binoculars. There is a bit of a walk to the memorial. And a lot of stairs! Wear comfortable shoes.

Probably just about big enough for Rhodes' ego, this place has a faded look now. Views out across the Cape Flats are pretty spectacular. Recently, the large bust of Rhodes has had the nose hacked off with a saw. More to the point, there have been a number of rapes close by, the victims mostly students from UCT nearby. The... More

Really windy but great views and a great monument. A shame it has been vandalized. Whatever your history is it is very childish to abuse the monuments.
