This is a beautiful side of Table Mountain which is less tourist riddled than other parts. One can easily spend a whole day swimming in the dam/walking/picnicking in the shade. Worth the trip! Get there early to get a good spot and don't forget to pack sunscreen as the shade is limited.

We had a very enjoyable walk here during our recent stay in Constantia. We went along much of the well-signed Elephant's Eye Trail and then back down to the reservoir. In the UK you could be sure that there would have been some kind of food stall by the parking area - how good to find something very much unspoilt!

We started with a hike to Elephant's Eye Cave which got our blood flowing. After the hike we were rewarded with a lovely swim in the dam which was followed by a peaceful picnic on the bank with friends.

Worth a trip! Lovely walk around the now flooded and dammed mine. Lots of indigenous plants. Take your swimming costume and a picnic, and enjoy a refreshing dip while you're there, lovely!

Stunning park, really great place to walk with friends. If you can and have the time in winter you can walk behind a waterfall at Elephants eye cave. Here you will be able to see the entire Cape Flats and the Peninsula Vineyards at your feet. On a clear day you can see in the distance The Hottentots Holland mountains,... More

We were two families with six kids from 3-12. Everyone enjoyed the hike and of course the picnic in the elephant's eye.

We love hiking and did Elephant's Eye for the 2nd time. Turn-off on Ou Kaapseweg on your way to Noordhoek. Entrance is R50pp. Go early as it can get very busy. 2 hour hike to Elephant's Eye and back. Bit windy (but that's part of the Cape Town experience). We took it very slowly and chilled at the top for... More

On a sunny day this is a lovely place. There is a small charge (R50) to enter the reserve and park the car. The Noordhoek Peak is a particularly spectacular trail which passes the reservoir (where you can picnic and swim). Follow the Jeep track upwards until you spot a small triangular cairn and take a small track off to... More

from the parking you can choose to go swim in the dam or go for two great walks. One to table mountain , the other to elephant's eye. We chose the second which ends in a beautiful natural cave. The walk is easy and about 3 hours walk total. On the way back we stopped at the dam, very well... More

There are many spectacular hikes in Cape Town, not least those on or around Table Mountain. But for those looking for another special option in Cape Town, the Silvermine Nature Reserve hike is my favourite. The hike, which takes around two hours and is on wide paths that are easy to traverse, gives one a great sense of the Cape... More
