It’s a hidden gem away from the hustle of the Waterfront, Lions Head & the cable car. Close to Muizenberg & Simon’s Town and part of the national park.
Lots of walking & biking routes as well as spots to park off around the reservoir & swim.
There are long drop toilets and bushes to change in but no one really cares!
A fun day out!

We were a family of 6 adults - we arrived at the gate and we advised that they only do cash as they are not on the system… luckily we have R228 for the R38 per person fee. We don’t ordinarily carry cash and what would have happened if we only had our cards or phones to tap to pay.
Also what about using your wild card - it is not acceptable for an acclaimed site to have a cash only system! Have also contacted the TMNP

We went on a walk in order to catch up. Different trails to choose from. Some picnic'ers were playing music loudly, which kind of defeated the purpose. Also, no lifeguards on duty, so be sure you can hold your own if you opt to swim.

Lovely nature surrounding a dam lake. Might get busy on holidays and weekends, has loads of parking and loads of braai spaces. Dogs not allowed, although some people didn't read those signs unfortunately. Good hiking.

We love Silvermine Nature Reserve and go often. There are a range of hikes in the reserve, different lengths and levels of difficulty. There are also mountain biking trails (but you need an SAN Parks activity card if you want to do this). But often, we go just to picnic and swim in the huge reservoir. The reservoir is surrounded by picnic sites that are well separated from each other. The reservoir is one of our favourite places to swim. I can highly recommend visiting.

It was a fun experience, although there are many steep parts, plus there are no gates or carved trails. The are occasional slippery spots, so were Some shoes with grip, also were a lot of sunblock. If you want to swim in the dam then be careful because there are many rocks. All in all it is a nice trip.

Ohw what a hike with spectacular views, the elephant’s eye was cherry on top. It would be nice though to have bigger visible route path for first time hikers in this reserve, we got lost with my friends but eventually got to the tar road that takes one to elephants eye

I want to know if hiking to the waterfall would be nice these days. Is the waterfall dry because of the minimal rain or is it still great?
Thanks

The waterfall is definitely drying up. A combination of the warm days, less rain because of summer and condensation. There is still some water but not gushing as much as it was two months ago.
