Although this is not the biggest building on Church Square, it is the oldest church in South Africa, but alas, only the bell tower is all that remains of the original building... couldn't find a trace of that, though... There is so much to admire...More

It is well worth taking the guided tour, to hear about the history of this church. The info about the pulpit, organ, tiles, rosettes in the ceiling, etc is very interesting

South Africa's oldest place of worship. First church built in 1678. Present church built in 1841. Clock tower is original. The pulpit is a magnificent carving by Anton Anreith. Worth a stop to see the pulpit.

The Groove Kerk is the oldest Church in South Africa and resembles the atmosphere of the reformation where the Word of God is central in every service. Its an architectural masterpiece with lots of history. Add a service in your CT calendar when visiting!

Gothic style church with enclosed pews, which would be bought by wealthy families. Large wood pulpit carved by Anton Anreith and Jan Jacob Graaff with 2 lions at the base. Largest organ in the Southern Hemisphere. By the front entry, the floor stones are recycled...More
