Greenmarket Square in downtown Cape Town is a great place to find authentic African crafts. The vendors sell their wares out of small covered booths (most are about 10’ x 10’). The market is open every day, but the number of vendors varies by the...More

Greenmarket square is the place to go for curios, trinkets, artwork, and even African clothing. I passed this market square quite a few times during my stay and it was enjoyable enough to go here to browse as most of the vendors were selling similar...More

We came on a weekday afternoon and purchased most of the gift we brought home. Not a bad market if you dont mind haggling a little bit.

I live in CPT. I used to love chilling here, but lately the shopkeepers have been pushy and aggressive! This last time I only stayed about 5 minutes, I got sick of "Nice price! Nice price! Look is free! Why you rude!" at every single...More

We were recommended to visit Greenmarket Square by a South African friend. Lots of stalls and when we went (Friday approx midday), wasn’t too busy which was a relief because we were warned about pickpockets who are quick and clever apparently! Definitely barter on prices-...More

this is an African curio market with a huge amount of wares on offer. I must say that I doubt that all of the wares are made in South Africa as I saw identical masks and other curios that I had bought in central America...More

While I like the energy of this square it is much too touristy. Vendors often charging prices for local goods that exceed the price of those international goods in the U.S. simply because someone will be dumb enough to pay that price. That being said,...More

This is just a quick stop for a trinket or two. Quality is not very good and costs can be high if you don’t haggle the price. Food in the area is average... had a nice lemonade though ... it was pricy for Cape Town.

Its a lot smaller that I imagined. Yes there are trinkets etc. but become repetitive after you've walked a bit. Some of the stall vendors are outright rude but some are nice. Would skip it if I were pressed for time.

Officially, 9am-5pm, but they'll sell earlier if you're there with money and they'll start closing up at 4 if it's a slow day.

9 to 5 according to their website. Be cautious and watchful in this area. We witnessed a necklace snatching and credit card theft just feet from the market perimeter. Once inside the perimeter security is tight.
