- elodTlvTel Aviv, Israel155 contributionsOK, but they will try to sell you stuffA short guided explanation about the history of diamonds, followed by a display of factory then they try to sell you. You get a free drink but you do have to pay for entrance and register your details for security reasons. It was OK, but nothing more as I am not a jewelry enthusiast.Visited December 2022Travelled soloWritten 30 December 2022
- Zed M13 contributionsA sales pitch disguised as a museumWhile the museum shows you how diamonds are made, and the history of diamonds in South Africa, it is really a 30-minute infomercial for why you should buy moned diamonds. It does not discuss the environmental damage or the history of demands during apartheid. (apartheid was kept to maximize diamond prifuts)Visited December 2022Written 21 February 2023

There were goosebumps moments that I can thank Méan for. Visit in this museum is a must.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 October 2023

An amazing tour that was guided by Imraan who passionatly provided a wonderful overview describing the history of diamond and the establishment of the Shimansky brand. With great professionalism valueing the artisans' talents and skills (which I mostly appreciated), he explained the craftsmanship process and the refining of these gems. The tour involved also a breathtaking visit to the showroom where I enjoyed wearing some of these jewels. Thanks again Imraan Abed for this wonderful, unique experience (It was worth skipping the lecture at the CTICC 🙂 due to my limited Time)

Had an amazing time learning about the history of South African diamonds and hearing stories about some of the most famous stones.
A real glimpse into the fascinating process of diamond making before getting to look at some beautiful specimens. Well worth the visit!

The history of diamonds was so eloquently explained by Zukisa, who took her time to give us rich information and a very informative walk through of the Diamond Museum. That said, I wish I had the money to purchase one same time!😂

What an amazing experience! It all started with a guided, very informative, tour by our own personal guide Imraan! He was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and personable. After the tour of the history of the diamond and how they custom make every piece in house, Imraan helped us pick out the most beautiful pair of my girl stud earrings! It was the least pressure buying experience we’ve had, where all he cared about was us and our experience! Would highly recommend adding this as a must do while in Cape Town and ask for Imraan. You won’t be disappointed!

Is this just an open air mine with a museum or do you go underground into a mine?

This museum is inside a shopping centre. The simulated "mine" is a passageway that is about 15m long that is kitted out with some mining paraphernalia.
