Recently travelled from Cape Town to Jo'burg on the Premier Classe Train. I read some awful reviews and felt we had made a mistake booking it. Not so! Don't expect Rovos Rail, it isn't and you're not paying for that level of service. It offers great value for money and a very enjoyable experience coupled with a good standard. You... More

We just loved the train trip from Cape Town to Johannesburg. My daughter and I had a single's compartment each and, while small, it was extremely comfortable. There were showers at one end of the carriage and toilets on either end. They were always kept clean. They really feed you on this train. We started out with champagne and snacks... More

We travelled from Jhb to CT. Overall mediocre. Premier class is definitely not what it's cracked up to be. We left over an two hours late. The staff on the train were good but are clearly battling difficulties. No hand towels, no side plates (saucers instead!?), moth eaten Premier Class bath robes - please don't steal them!! Who would want... More

This experience was a massive disappointment. They over promised (in terms of price too) and under delivered on almost everything else. The train ran late which it seems to do regularly. Food was mediocre. Staff pleasant enough but not something I am going to rush back to experience again

On arrival the greeting lounge was full, not enough seating, and the bathroom had a welcoming party of cockroaches. I was pleased with my cabin, a single comparment, but on a closer look saw that the advertised cottan/fleece gown was nowhere, and that the cabin phone had been ripped out. So no ability to order in, as advertised. Plus note... More

Went by Premier to Cape Town return in Dec. Train clean, comfortable & good food BUT delays are a BIG problem. Going to CT had a breakdown resulting in a delay but the worst was the train driver who drove for half an hour than said his shift was over. There we sat in the middle of nowhere (near Deelfontein... I decided to go by train from Johannesburg to Cape town instead of flying. Big mistake. Train started 45 minutes late, broke down and the driver went on strike. As a South African I am embarrassed to think that tourists use this. It should be shut down! DONT USE IT!

Cape Town to Johannesburg. We wanted to experience a trip across South Africa, which in concept is a very exciting opportunity to see the scenery along the way. Being a hard core trip advisor user, I should have known better and did my homework. Read the reviews before you book. Stop and read please. Given the reasonable price, we did... More

We travelled to Cape Town and found the train to be worth the memories. The train is clean, staff goes out of their way to please with friendly service. My wife enjoyed the meals, although I found it unimaginative and rather dull. The beautiful scenery makes it worth the while.

In its prime this would have been a winner. It still was enjoyable enough- long drive through the country, seeing things never seen before - but lots of lengthy stops and the train has passed its best. It's looking tired. Staff also strangely absent a lot of the time, although helpful when you go looking for them. Food mostly average.... More
