Some of the most epic views we have had in a National Park. Even with the arid environment we still saw many birds. The animals are not really what I would go to the park for, more the vast open landscapes, quiet enjoyment and countless...More

I stayed at the Tankwa Karoo National Park in winter. I wanted to go birding and mountain biking. We stayed in an old farmhouse probably an hours drive to the next - you experience the remoteness and desolation of the Karoo. The Varschwater house is...More

We entered the Tankwa National Park from the Tankwa Tented Camps side passing the Africa Burn site. The Park's office was +- 40km away. The roads are really very bad. Not suitable for a car. No cellphone reception - be prepared with a spare wheel...More

The park as a whole is beautiful and tranquil but definitely not for the faint hearted. The park's office is very far from camps (18 km from the Elandsberg cottages where we stayed), there is absolutely no phone coverage and in case of an emergency...More

Tankwa Karoo NP is a fantastic place to visit for both plants and for the slightly unusual birds and mammals. The area is currently in the grip of a prolonged drought and this is having an effect. Flower season is a must through here though.

This is one of the most special places that I have ever been to. It is desolate but has a naked beauty. Not for prissy folk who need all the comforts.

A few years back we went to stay in the chalets in the Tankwa Karoo. Beautifully decorated, candle lights and gas shower. Absolute a blissful place if you want to sync with your inner self again.

This is a beautiful place, as describe in other reviews, a place with stark differences, extreme contrasts and endless starlit nights! We stayed at Paulshoek for 2 nights and Elandsberg 1 night. Paulshoek has got a waterhole very close by the cottage which offers glorious...More

My wife and I completed our three week tour of Okavango and Kalahari at Tankwa, hugely impressed by the serenity, peace, landscapes and animals. Stayed at Paulshoek cottage, 10 min drive from the park reception. Stayed one night, could have easily stayed 3 or 4....More

With a normal car you can travel on R354 towards Middelpos (little garage and even smaller shop) and from there via Gannaga Pass to Tankwa NP. 4x4 enthusiasts can take Ouberg Pass from Suthernland. But read up about the pass... More
