Not special needs inclusive
Nov 2020
When we notified the operator during the booking call that we would all be wearing masks except for our autistic three-year-old who can't tolerate face covering, we were told we could not visit. As he did not have a cold or show any symptoms and we could not possibly leave him behind, we were more than willing to comply with all standard check-in precautions including temperature checks, sanitizing and keeping a safe distance but sadly we had to cancel our booking because of a pathetic lack of inclusivity. We appreciate that the chimps health must come first but there are ways to ensure adequate safety measures without seeming insensitive to the plight of those who are differently-abled.

Endlessly educational and fascinating experience for young and old

We left a part of our hearts at the sanctuary and gain med so much food for thought and warmth for the soul by witnessing the good that people can do when they are caring and passionate. Please visit and support this cause. Our children still talk about the Chimpanzees we encountered and what a wonderful and important thing it is for them to be rescued and safe.

Wonderful Experience
Feb 2020
The staff have individual attention and care for each chimp - know all their stories (which are horrific and harrowing). The tour is well worth it and spending some cash in the cafe/shop is a good way of injecting some contribution to the sanctuary which does not have state funding (most chimps come from central african countries).

Interesting resort

This place is a really good new home for not longer needed shimpazis!
We heard sad stories about their former life, most of them where used only as an attraction... costumers gave them Zigarettes and alcohol and treated them bad!
In chimpz Eden they can enjoy living in harmony!
For everything you buy at the store the staff can buy food and medizine for the apes!
A good Institution, only 18 km away from nelspruit!

VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH TOUR
Dec 2019
Seeing the chimps was really nice - even in the rain but we were very disappointed in the tour. We were combined with a group/tour of about 30+ people. They spoke French and had an interpreter. Not only was the whole tour group WAY too large. We could not hear the Chimp Eden tour guide and had a lot of wasted time waiting for the translation to French.

I looked forward to this for years. Made a special trip to Nelspruit to visit Chimp Eden but sigh ... the logistics of the tour really impacted the day.

A good afternoon visit
Nov 2019
We visited the Chimp Eden (which is only about 15 minutes drive out of the main part of Nelspruit), on a very warm day at the end of November and visited the 2 separate groups of chimps. The guide was knowledgeable and obviously had a real affinity with the chimps. Each chimp had a different story and many of these stories are sad and difficult to hear, but all the chimps are now very well cared for and safe in this lovely sanctuary. We spent around 2 hours here, enjoying the tour and browsing the gift shop. There is shade at each of the two areas which was great because it was so hot. The chimps are a delight. Watch out for Cozy, the cheeky boy who has suffered a brain injury due to physical abuse when he was younger (and who we adopted!), who likes to throw rocks! A great way to spend half a day.

Disappointing due to bad planning
Dec 2019 • Couples
Booked a tour in advance and arrived in time. 15 minutes after starting the tour, an extra 11 people were added to the already large group. The tourguide repeated almost everything she already told so we had to hear the story twice. After 30 minutes the tourguide said the second part of the tour was cancelled due to unclear reasons. Later we found oyt the maintanance of a gate was delayed. No refund of a part of the pretty expensive tour was offered, only when i asked for this at the manager we were given a partial refund.
When one plans maintanance, be sure a tour is not influenced by that or tell in time that this can happen. Secondly: do not allow a large group merging into a already ongoing tour, this is disrespectful to the people who were in time.
Pity as the goal of this foundation is really good but due to bad customer attitude we left without donating or even adopting a chimp.

Sad stories, happy endings for these beautiful chimps
Nov 2019 • Friends
Booked for a very large group. They were a pleasure to deal with from start to end. We really enjoyed our 1 hour learning so much about each individual story. Some were unbearable to listen to but I guess all part of the reason of why we were there. They all have found their forever home in this wonderful sanctuary. Tour was R170 and all proceeds go towards the running costs of Chimp Eden. Also a restaurant to grab a bite to eat and a curio shop. We all learnt alot and loved seeing these chimps happy.
