Amazing sanctuary with true compassion to help these beings live a more natural life free from their ugly human beginnings. Please make this a stop in your itinerary to support these incredible beings. Jane Goodall is a true hero.

We had a fortuitous week in the Kruger Park where we had some of the best sightings in more than a decade. Little did we know that the highlight of our trip to the Lowveld would be our visit to Chimp Eden.

We had an incredible time learning about these fascinating creatures and their unique personalities. The chimps come from difficult backgrounds but Chimp Eden has provided them all with a home where you can almost forget the trauma that they've been through.

Our two guides (Natasha & Easton) were also very pleasant and knowledgeable. You could see they cared for the chimps. The guides contributed immensely to the experience and from them we could sense that Chimp Eden is definitely not a zoo but an actual sanctuary for these amazing animals.

My husband and I went on the Chimp Eden Tour Nov. 8th 2022. We had the absolute best time! Even though it was raining our tour guides provided us with ponchos. Our tour guides were two women whose names I regretfully forget. (One worked at a lion sanctuary previously and one used to teach). They had so much knowledge about the sanctuary and conservation efforts for chimpanzees. It was obvious that they were passionate about the chimpanzees. Their energy, as well as the chimpanzees energy, was infections!

We both learned so much about chimpanzees social behaviors and community structure. We could have stayed there for a much longer time! The gift shop was small and cute. My only regret is not buying all the chimpanzee key chains!

This is an excellent way to help support the conservation of chimpanzees.

Highly recommend. Would absolutely return.

We stopped here on our way driving back from Kruger to Johannesburg. If you are self-driving then add this to the list of places you visit en route to/from Kruger. They have three tours a day that last anywhere from 1hr15min to 1hr45min. Such a lovely experience to see all the rescued chimps, hear the stories behind each of them and learn about how some of them, but not all, will eventually be released back into the wild.

Road is fully paved from the entry point up to the parking lot - 2WD vehicles entirely fine.

This is so worth a visit - not only to learn about these amazing creatures but to support this sanctuary which has saved chimps from a terrible existence in zoos, nightclubs, laboratories etc . They now look so happy in large natural enclosures and well looked after by staff.
There is a very good gift shop there - plenty of choice for presents and again supporting a great cause.
Thank you so much to the staff for an interesting tour and for Jane Goodall for being such a compassionate and inspiring lady.

An excellent sanctuary, more than worthy of everyone's support, as you would expect from a Jane Goodall operation. The staff were excellent, our guide Zama knew the history of every Chimp and regaled us with stories about each chimp and their unique personality and behaviours. Most of these chimps had a sad, if not harrowing, start to their lives. Now, they have the opportunity to live a good and safe life where their welfare is clearly paramount.

Visited here with friends. Well set-up. There were a number of things closed in the centre due to obvious reasons, but the guide was very informative and he did a wonderful job. The chimpanzees all had a story and were clearly loved by all the staff. Terrible how they were once treated, we are lucky to have rescue organisations such as this.

Though a bit out of the way (the reason for that being obvious, given this is an animal sanctuary), the visit to Chimp Eden was a wonderful experience. It's of course sad when you learn why the chimps need the sanctuary in the first place, but the tour was informative and the chimps are entertaining. True preservation, with a hands-off, natural approach, Chimp Eden is a good way to spend an informative hour.

Arriving at the Jane Goodall Institute Chimp Eden,to a welcoming Tanya with her lovely Irish accent and Odette with her buckets of yummy chimp treats, our tour fee paid and some time to kill we had some lunch in our car admiring the view before our small group started the tour. Tanya was incredible , her love and passion for each chimp shining through her as she chatted , knowledgeable, telling us every detail of every rescued chimp in the sanctuary. She explained their stories, abuse, fears, loves, mischief, love of life and each other. The opportunity to get up close and experience the communication between these beautiful animals was incredible . It is heartbreaking listening to how some of them have been treated by human beings. Had a few lovely laughs at Cozy as he played Tarzan throwing a few stones , ducking as he smiled at us beating his chest. Stamping my foot as he copied my behaviour with a big cheesy grin. Nina had a sadness about her that touched my soul. 4 year old Baby Amari the youngest SA born too cute to ignore as she played havoc with our hearts and the troop with her cute little face, white fluffy rear and no care attitude . Watching Joào the oldest wise old man at 76 years of age teaching the young how to behave was very special reminded me of a very wise old man . The respect, love and hugs shared by the troop brought tears to my eyes and a massive lump to my throat. I am incredibly grateful that Chimp Eden has created a safe haven for these beautiful chimps teaching humanity about these gentle loving misused almost human animals . These beautiful creatures care and look after each other with kindness and love that we as humans could learn so much from. They apologize when they offend, hurt when they fight and teach each other the ways of life no questions asked. Total acceptance. When they stare at you and connect it is like looking at the humans soul.
