I feel extremely guilty and awkward for writing this review more than a year after we took our trip, but there is no escaping the fact that I just kept postponing writing it because I knew that it would be long and detailed. Anyway, here it is now and I feel it is better to be late than never ! My wife and I took a trip to South Africa in March of 2019. (Unfortunately, I cannot truly indicate this in this review since the earliest month that the system allows me to specify is June 2019 !). We were joined by 9 other people (4 couples and a single lady). All of us were from the U.S, mostly from Southern California. It was a 13-night, 14-day trip that started and ended in Johannesburg. We spent two nights in Johannesburg, three nights in Kruger National Park, six nights in Cape Town and, finally, two nights in Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. The entire trip was ably handled by Arun. He took care of all of the hotel arrangements as well as all road and air travel arrangements during our trip. Here are the highlights of our trip. Days 1 through 3 --- Johannesburg ---------------------------------------------------------------- During our two-night stay here, we visited the famous Apartheid Museum (you just cannot visit this place and come away without being deeply affected because this place shows how men can be so inhuman to other men) and also Nelson Mandela’s home in Soweto. We also visited Little India where we did some shopping and had a nice Indian lunch. During our stay, we also managed to visit a casino and had a good time there. Days 3 through 6 --- Kruger National Park --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the morning of Day 3, we drove from Johannesburg to Kruger where we spent three nights. It was a very nice drive. In Kruger, we stayed in cottages with kitchen facilities. We all cooked our meals, with Arun lending a hand with his expertise. Every day of our stay there, we made two safari trips, one in the morning and one in the evening, in two separate vehicles. We saw many types of wild animals. These included elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and plenty of impalas. It was truly an unforgettable experience to see so many wild animals, many from a very close distance. Days 6 through 12 --- Cape Town ------------------------------------------------------------------- On the morning of Day 6, we drove back from Kruger to Johannesburg where we caught an afternoon flight to Cape Town. Cape Town is indeed a fun place where we all had a great time. Among the attractions that we covered during our Cape Town stay are the following: Table Mountain ------------------------- You get magnificent views of the city from this landmark which is more than 3,000 feet above the city. You get there by taking an aerial cableway. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden ---------------------------------------------------------------- We spent several hours enjoying this beautiful place. The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront ------------------------------------------------------- This place has many fabulous restaurants and shops. This is also the place from where you take the boat ride to Robben Island (see below). Greenmarket Square --------------------------------- A short distance from the waterfront, this is an unique public square with cobble stone walkways where local vendors sell colorful merchandise including painted fabrics, leather belts, purses and many curios. Robben Island ----------------------- We visited this island via a boat ride from the Victoria and Albert waterfront. This island is the site of the (now closed) famous prison where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of the 28 years that he was imprisoned as a political prisoner. We saw the cell where he spent his time in the prison. You cannot visit this place without being deeply affected by the exhibits. Drive to Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This was a magnificent drive. It reminded all of us of the drive on the Pacific Coast Highway in Southern California. Drive to Cape Agulhas ------------------------------------ This represents the southernmost tip of the African continent and the point where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Tandem Paragliding -------------------------------- Some of the more adventurous in our group, including me, used the opportunity of our Cape Town visit to try tandem paragliding. With Arun’s help, we tried this adventure from Signal Hill in the Table Mountain area. It was an absolutely glorious experience. I got million dollar views of the city and the bay from the paraglide which landed in a park by the water. From there, the glider people brought us back to Signal Hill by their vehicle. Days 12 through 14 --- Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We left Cape Town very early in the morning on Day 12 to fly to Johannesburg. From there, we changed flights to fly to Livingstone in Zambia. From the airport in Zambia, we took a shuttle that took us across the border to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe where we spent two nights in the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge where we had a great time. The first evening we took a river cruise on the Zambezi river. The second night we went for a buffet dinner which included colorful African music and dance. We all had an absolutely delightful evening. Day 14 --- Johannesburg and Departure from South Africa ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After breakfast on Day 14, we took a flight back to Johannesburg from where, after bidding goodbye to Arun, we all left on our journey back home via our respective international flights. Concluding Remarks --------------------------------- We all had a great time during our unforgettable trip. By the end of the trip, we all agreed that Arun had become a part of our big family ! To be honest, I just cannot say enough good things about Arun. The arrangements he had made, whether they be accommodations or transportation or food, were such that he spared no effort to make sure that our trip was as enjoyable as possible. Where we had to cook our meals, like in Kruger, he lent us his helping hand with his cooking expertise. More than anything, Arun, who somehow reminds of the legendary Hollywood actor Orson Wells, is a man who loves life and absolutely loves what he is doing. More important, he passionately loves animals and is intimately familiar with their habitats and traits. I really feel that he knows more about animals and safaris than most South African natives. If we get an opportunity, my wife and I would love one day to make another trip to Africa and go with Arun on a Kgalagadi Safari sometime in the future, preferably with my son and his family which includes a young daughter and a young son. I highly recommend Arun for taking safari trips in Africa. I am absolutely convinced that he will spare no effort to make sure that you will absolutely enjoy your trip. You can be certain that you will get the full bang for your buck.

What a trip did we have with in the Kruger Park! Basically we went from one jawdropping experience or view to another. Not only did we witness several leopard sightings, but how about a whole family of lions with small cubs. The knowledge of Arun (and his son) were outstanding and getting to know him made it even more worthwhile. After a week we had experienced one of the most amazing weeks of our lives and that was mostly thanks to Arun and his knowledge. I also really liked the fact that he was aware of the vulnerability of the ecosystem in the park and was not shy to share his opinion about this subject with others. And did I mention the nice barbeques already? We still follow Arun on instagram and it shows that we were not just lucky. The pictures he shares with the world say more than any review will.

Going to Kruger I had a wonderful time. The seitings were absolutely amazing. Driving right next to two lioness in the reach of touching, seitings of leopards, garaffs and having buffelo and elephants cross the road right in front of us. Always being in the best position for the perfect shot with the Camara, we were able to take such beautiful pictures, thanks to Arun's very impressive driving skills. All in all the visit was wonderful, also being in his company was very joyful and exciting as he talked about the animals and Kruger park. Thank you Arun and Dread Lion Safaris. Can't wait to return.

I had the pleasure of travelling to South Africa with 10 of my friends from LA thru DreadLion Safaris . This was a memorable trip only because of our tour leader Arun Rao of this company . The trip was very thoroughly planned by him with good hotels , good food personal care of each of us in the group . We started with Johannesburg, Kruger national park , Cape Town , Cape of good Hope, Victoria Falls . After Apartheid museum and Nelson Mandela ‘s house visit , we drove to Kruger national park for safari. The cottage that I stayed in Kruger was very good with kitchen facilities . Arun became a part of group planning and cooking meals for us. He knows in and out of Kruger to show us all the wild animals very closely in the safari. We flew to Cape Town from Johannesburg and saw botanical garden , boat ride to Nelson Mandela prison site , Cape of good hope , tip of South Africa . Couple of brave people on our tour wanted to glide and Arun accommodated that too. Last leg of our trip was our visit to Victoria falls in Zimbabwe side to view full falls . Arun made all the arrangements for us to see the falls and a sunset cruise to view more animals during cruise in addition to beautiful sunset. Such a personal tour guide is hard to find . All the admissions were already included in the trip amount quoted. The hotels that we stayed had good breakfasts. Arun is a great tour guide and very caring to accommodate all the needs . This was a memorable trip and I highly recommend to use his company and him for African safari tours.
