Still an actively functioning church with a flour mill museum down next to the river. The church is stunning, although slowly fading away - needs some TLC - but perhaps it adds to it's beauty and gives you the feeling that it really is over a hundred years old. May not be unlocked if you visit when it is not... More

The church is nestled in the mountains making for a majestic setting... Or so we thought. The isolated location made the church grounds a place for hobo makeshift houses. Although it was completely deserted there was an uneasiness in respect of personal safety. The church could also not be accessed which was really disappointing.

I should have spent longer here, its a place that speaks of a long history, a memorial to a past that needs to be preserved and cherished. The inside of the church was inspirational and had I not been photographing it, I would have stayed and meditated on the men and women who worked their lives to the bone in... More

We just happened to see the sign on the road and went in on the off chance that we could look around. What an amazing little treasure. The church has to be one of the best old churches I have ever visited. The art work, pews (all made by the mission staff in the early 1900's or even earlier from... More

The mill is broken up but the school is still going and although we could not go inside the church (it was too early when we drove past on our way home) it looks in very good condition outside. Old wooden doors and stained glass windows are beautiful I'm sure it's just as beautiful inside as the pictures I've seen.... More

A beautiful former mission and monastery founded by German Trappist monks. It seems a shame that the mother house or any, particularly German Catholoc organisation cannot find the means and volunteers to save the beautiful sandstone church which looks as if the waterloogeg sandstone walls might crumble any day soon. It is a beautiful wedding venue ( there is a... More

Beautiful church well worth a visit! It was a wedding venue for family friends and we were enchanted with the exquisite stained glass and hand painted frescoes created by the Trappist Monks in the 1880's

We made the mistake of arriving without making prior arrangements for a tour or a guide. The lack of funds can be seen in the general upkeep of the surrounding buildings BUT we would love to go back for a proper visit to this magnificent mission. We just peeked around as best as we could but left with so many... More

Upon entry one can immediately see the typical German architecture and feel the small village feeling. Unfortunately, it is no longer run as an active monastery. It now serves as a local school. Visitors are welcome to roam the grounds. The buildings, setting, and beautiful colours make the set-up excellent for photography.

a ver4y interesting place to visit with a very rich history and so much to see and do. they are making every effort to restore everything to its former glory after it having been neglected and nature having its effect on very old structures and functions and it will be a very valuable tourist attraction once completed and the school...
