Museum is small but is very interesting in showing how apartheid (and the policies that preceded apartheid) played out in Durban/KZN in what came to be known as 'The Durban system'. The museum is housed in the former premises of Durban’s Native Affairs Department where...More

You only understand how little you know if you have been to this museum. After the visit I had a better understanding of this region of South Africa.

Surprisingly there is a fee to enter when most other museums in Durban are free. However well worth a visit to understand the structure of racial segregation from a past era. Lots of documents that can be read.

Small place, worth the trip to learn about what happened in Durban towards ending Apartheid. Also an excellent exhibit about HIV/AIDS and TB in South Africa and what is being done and how it is working.

This museum has been around for years, and really provides an interesting and well-curated experience, both for the permanent and temporary exhibitions. Deals with the lived reality of locals under the pass system and racist apartheid laws.
