My husband and I stayed in one of the chalets. The decor and fittings are very 'dated' - 1970/early 80s era. It is time management put money back into updating bathroom and kitchen areas. There was nothing 'exciting' to buy in the curio shop - very poor selection. Went on evening game drive with guide and then the next morning... More

After following the signs from Louwsburg we eventually came to the Ntshondwe Camp site. Pleased to find a chalet available and booked for two nights. Arranged a sunset safari and were the only couple on the trip so had the delightful Joseph to ourselves. He pointed out lots of animals and birds we would never have seen or known what... More

In March four of us spent two nights at Ithala and whilst the game viewing was limited the quality was great. We carefully admired a rock python going about its business from a mere two metres. How quiet elephants can be is amazing. Views from a testing climb were worth the effort. Accommodation and food exceeded expectations Only disappointment was... More

As my title says, this place is run for the benefit of the staff. The service is slow, surly and practically non existent. The guests are in the way. The lodge itself is nice and in a beautiful location. Just don't expect to be valued. The "bar" closes at 2130 and on the 3 nights we were there it ran... More

If you love to get away from the crowds this is the place to come. The chalets are well equipped and have a nice covered outdoor area with brai. The roads once off the tar can be a bit of a challenge but nothing to worry about if you take it slowly, and why would you want to rush? with... More

After visiting the Hluhluwe Imfolozi reserve so many times we decided to give Ithala a try. What a find! So tranquil and scenic. Loved every minute and will be back for sure

IThala Game Reserve is a really special place. It is usually quite quiet and you never get stuck in those awful game viewing queues of cars. For most of the time we felt like we were the only people in the reserve! What is really great about this reserve is the scenery - no other game reserve that I can... More

Had heard much about Ithala and finally made it through a drought-stricken northern Natal. The reserve is situated in stunningly beautiful surroundings and the camp no less so. We would advise care in running the gauntlet of vervet monkeys to the reception. This was the first time we had actually been attacked, by a pair who came close to getting... More

Ithala remains one of my favorite places - close to my heart as we got married there in 2010. Unmatched scenery, a visit here is the perfect weekend getaway. Friendly and accommodating staff ensure your visit is a memorable one.

We stayed for 2 nights in August as we wanted to break the journey between the Battlefields around Dundee and our next stop at St Lucia. We really enjoy game viewing and Ithala is a self-drive reserve. To be more precise it is really only a self-drive reserve if you have a high clearance vehicle. The scenery is absolutely, spectacularly,... More
