About
The 1976 photograph of slain thirteen-year old Hector Pieterson, carried by a friend while his grieving sister runs alongside, is a chilling reminder that South African was changed thereafter.

We only visited the monument, not the museum as we had previously visited the Apartheid Museum. Our guide told us the story as these things need to be remembered.

My wife and I were taken their as part of a Monogram Tour by our guide, Taki Christodoulou who provided so much insight into this event and the memorial. He made this a very memorable part of our trip.

An important site nicely designed , but sadly in need of maintenance. The "line of grass and trees" is now barely visible due to the lack of... watering the grass.

The memorial is very compelling. It was helpful to have a guide who was able to explain the meaning of the running water. A humbling place.

This memorial is so symbolic of the effect of Hector Pietersons death, that it is emotionally charged. It brought tears to my eyes, it really tells the story. We did not visit the museum but I learned so much just from the memorial

Beautiful! Respect to the artistic person/people who thought out the concept of representing the tombstone, stones, concrete walls, water and portrait as one concept. The place is fairly clean too.
