At the time we visited the square was being renovated but work had stopped so it was a bit of building site. It houses a variety of old colonial styles buildings around the outside including the court house where Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life.

Some beautiful architecture but the whole square was being dug up and re-paved/re-planted when we visited so probably didn't see it at it's best.

The square and the surrounding streets are under renovation so it is impossible to reach or pass them by car. The place is very crowded so we just took a look and drove on.
