The neglected farmhouse has been restored, the garden has been freshly planted, the ducks and geese are breeding and it seems that the grounds of this museum as a whole is improving. The Saturday Farmers Market brings energy and life to this historic landmark, Ideal...More

Old fashioned goodness. Step back in time. Have a picnic under the trees while the ducks drift by in the stream and the peacocks shaking their magnificent feathers to amaze you. Good fun day for all

Do yourself a favour. Get up one Saturday morning early. I mean early. Be there at about 5:30. Farm fresh produce and fresh meat directly from the farmers. No middlemanso costsare affordable. You can buy your months groceries here guaranteed fresh. Then there is the...More

The Pioneer house is typical of how the Boers used to live - a very basic lifestyle. There is place to have a picnic and there is a small shop. Early on Saturday mornings (from 5 am), farmers bring fresh produce and crafts to sell...More

Can buy lovely fresh produce direct from the farmer. Have a hearty breakfast and chat with fellow Pretorianers. Must visit at least once a month

Our family has been visiting this museum since the 1980's. In recent times the Farmers Markets is the only attraction. The museum is desolate, damaged, derelict. There are some farm animals around as well as small kept parts of the garden. Tragic.

The area is lovely with its tall trees. I can't imagine it is still a museum, but on Saturday mornings, it hosts the Farmers' Market - and that, I would recommend. My rating is therefore, for the Farmers' Market and NOT for the Pioneer Museum.

The Pioneers' house truly gives an insight into the simple lifestyle of the Afrikaner Pioneers who farmed in the region. The Province became known as Transvaal and together with the Free State Province these two Provinces were declared exclusive Afrikaner Provinces. The discovery of gold...More

It's in ruins! The roof has fallen in, the walls are tumbling down. From what used to be a thriving, functioning farm museum providing employment for up to 30 people in the 1990s, this irreplaceable national treasure dating to before Pretoria even, is now a...More
