10/10!!!Excellent and unique content with a large variety of rare and unique aircraft on display as well as vehicles.This museum is very high on the list of places I would recommend to visit to anyone visiting South Africa...Heaven for any aircraft or wartime enthusiast...Be sure to go and see the Messerschmit 262 one of only four left in the WORLD... We visited the Museum in July 2016, with an American couple who we hosted in Jhb for a few days, they were both ex Colonels in the US Air Force, they were very impressed, both avid Military Historians, stated this was one of the best Military Museums they had ever visited.

In 1947, after World War II, the Ditsong National Museum of Military History was opened by Field Marshal Jan Smuts. The museum commemorate South Africa's role in that war in support of the Allied Forces, Subsequently it has expanded to include all military conflicts in Southern Africa. We took our 2 boys there and they loved all the old army tanks and airoplanes and they even had a mini market to buy souvenirs. It was great!

Whilst not dwelling on the false glories of war, the museum has a great collection of the equipment and tools used during the conflicts of WW1, WW2 and other African conflicts. From planes to tanks, artillery to hand weapons the collection is a thought provoking reflection on the ingenuity of man to develop weapons of war but it also captures... More

A visit to the SANMMH makes an impact on you - all the militaria that you usually only see in black and white documentaries are displayed in all their glory in this museum. Very interesting to see old military uniforms, weapons and vehicles. Children can also play on some old stuff. Great for kids parties.
