Visiting here doesn't take long, but it drives home the fact that Nelson Mandela came from humble origins and with very few possessions. This was also the first place I had ever heard Xhosa speaking as our guide said a few words in that language...More

Interesting to see just the size of his house. Items displayed include awards and pictures. Not really a must stop but interesting. Guide provided the background.

The renovation from April 2008 to March 2009 restored the original Mandela House and made it more accessible for visitors. The house is full of documents and photos of Mandela and Winnie. I would allow at least 2 to 3 hours to fully enjoy.

Its a 15 mins walk through the small two bed room house in Soweto . It contains pictures, articles, South African items during the struggle. Interesting way to learn about South African history.

You will not be blown away, it is tiny and will take 15 min to visit but its something that just has to be done to better understand the humble beginnings of this amazing man.

It is a simple 2 BR 1 bath brick house with a small kitchen in the living quarters. Mandela had a simple life there. My favorate was the key to the City of Newark, NJ on the mantle.

Anyone interested in SA history will really want to visit here, but it is somewhat "hail to the chief" with its certificates and statements. ... The guide showing us around as a student intern did a good if rushed job, and he didn't hover for...More

Yes, you get to see Mandela's house (about a 3 room house with some of his awards and other items). You also see the burn marks and bullet holes from when his house was attacked. All that, however, takes about 10 minutes. It would go...More
