We first came here many years ago and found such pleasure ,sitting in the tiny back garden in the sunshine with birds singing. We also loved the tiny interesting features here. The floors not level wonky stairs etc. Such a variety of items from yesteryear. Do not fail to visit no 7

The house is very well laid out with each room very much as it would have been in the 19C. The exhibits are excellently displayed and of a very high calibre. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. All very good value for R20 per person.

With a spectacular view of the harbour, number 7 Castle Hill is one of the oldest dwellings, built by an Irish minister back in 1827. The house has been decorated and furnished with pieces dating as far back as 1750. There is a nominal entrance fee for adults and children and one is given an informative laminated brochure explaining the... More

Although I miss the well-informed and passionate-about-the-past curator who was at number 7 for a long time, hats off to the child-friendly attempts to engage youngsters who visit this museum. Having a "treasure-hunt" is such an effective way of stimulating their interest - a print-out and clipboard turned them into mini- sleuths and I found myself answering questions long after... More

Nice to see how the middle class people lived in the early years of Port Elizabeth. The house is on a hill that probably had a view on the old port. The look is authentic, furniture interesting. Mementoes galore.

...after being lovingly nurtured by former staff, there are political "storm-in-a-teacup" power struggle issues which deprive visitors to Port Elizabeth of yet another fascinating attraction.

It is not often that you can enter into a bygone world . Step back and see how our Settler forefathers lived .Each room is decorated and furbished as it would have been there. There is a curator on hand to give information and tell the story!

Beautiful museum. Well kept and gives one an accurate feel of what living in the 1820's as a Settler to Algoa Bay was like.

This quaint museum takes you back in time through the Victorian era and showcases how people lived in Port Elizabeth in those times. There are many gems to be found in the various rooms and there is something for all ages. The staff are a store of knowledge and it is great just to sit down and have a chat... More

If you are a museum crawler, don't miss this one and don't be misled by the size - the museum is a modest house of the Settlers era furnished as it would have been in those days. Don't venture into that general area alone though, go in a group - PE's Central is suffering much like many other inner cities,... More
