SAMREC is Port Elizabeth's new marine bird rehabilitation and education centre situated in the Cape Recife Nature Reserve. The centre's purpose isn't just to rescue and rehabilitate, but to also inform and educate the public through their different programs.Tour our marine rehab and education centre and experience nature through sight, sound and touch.Visitors can experience the hospital and see the volunteers in action helping to save our environment, in particular the endangered African Penguin.

We had our first visit here this year and were too late for the feeding of the penguins so will return another year. However, the staff were very helpful and let us go through and see the penguins and other birds which made us sure...More

Arrived at 14:15 In time for a tour then the feeding of the penguins at 14:45. The number of fish which each bird eats is recorded daily. It was fun watching the penguins swim. Wonderful educational for adults and children.

We had a lovely visit here and the tour guide was full of knowledge and super approachable. Great souvenir shop with really friendly people.

Was little confused how to get here...have to go into cape recife and past guard but dont need entry fee to reserve. Few hundred metres into park is samrec. Entry only 40 rand and person at reception talks through history and info using stuffed animals...More

Fantastic visit today and an excellent project, very happy to pay the entrance fee to contribute. Although the coffee shop was closed we still had a lovely time watching the long term penguins and gannets in the outdoor enclosures, then had the opertunity to watch...More

This is a short destination. Place feels remote, even though just out of PE. Chain security to get in so Lord knows what else is on site. Lovely little explanatory display, albeit perhaps too many stuffed birds for the modern taste. Rehab penguins just gorgeous....More

hello I certainly would recommend it. they have an educational room set out specifically for children were they xan touch the displays. its not a big site so easy for little ones to walk about. enjoy it
