To any visitor who takes a look at the current pic on TA, and then goes looking for St Patricks, then you have a better chance than most of finding snakes in Ireland, than finding this church. Rather google it and then you will have a better idea of what to look out for, or if time constraints are key,... More

St Patrick's is on Hill St next to the public library. The photograph here is not of any church in Grahamstown. St Patrick's refers to the Catholic Church. Some reviewers seem to be confusing it with the town's Anglican cathedral of St Michael and St George which is about 400m away at the top of High St and Hill St... More

The fathers wouldn't mind if you asked them to open up the church so you can look at the amazing altar piece and spectacular high roof! Student mass is offered on Sundays 18:30

Of course I am biased when it comes to this Church. When I visit Grahamstown for the Festival I celebrate Sunday Mass here. So I do find it a home from home so to speak and the architecture adds to the experience.

Nice cathedral in the center of Grahamstown with a unique history. St Patrick's Church in Grahamstown, has played many roles in its time. From saving the souls of people, to saving and protecting the people themselves. A large garrison was retained in Grahamstown during the frontier peace between 1839 and 1844. The garrison included soldiers of the Irish regiments, and... More

When celebrating mass here one cannot but be impressed by this magnificent building itself. Here is something about the history of the Church from Ancestry24: "A Gothic Revival building in Grahamstown, probably designed by Maj. Charles Jasper Selwyn of the Royal Engineers. The priest in charge, who superintended its building, was Father Thomas Murphy. The church was erected between 1839... More
