It was the beast way to discover East London.
Nahoon Beach was isolated with great view over the dunes, sandy beach and such a quite place to chill and relax.

Please highlight that the beach is in South Africa, not in London.

A spur of the moment decision on a visit to Mermaid's Pool at Nahoon Beach for my family turned into a really fantastic, relaxing and enjoyable experience.

The water was ice-cold, but that did nothing to stop my 8 yr old daughter from swimming in the pool and even trying her hand at snorkelling to look for some fish (not much).

My 2 yr old son chose to stay away from the "big water" and spent his time looking for shells and pebbles on the beautiful but small beach area.

You feel safe in this area, the parking area is within eye-site of where you play and The Reef Café is just up the hill from you.

There are scenic boardwalks (a little damaged in areas due to age) that let you see some magnificent views and also take you over the hills into the Nahoon Point Nature Reserve on the one side and back to Nahoon Beach proper on the other side.

All in all, it was a fun few hours, sheltered from the wind and myself and family really enjoyed it

the beach and the river is beautiful and so easy to access. We love visiting and taking a dip in either the sea or the river afterwards.

We spent a lovely time at Nahoon Beach. There is free parking with the usual "car guard" at the ready for a small donation. It is a lovely swimming beach and was very clean. The lifeguards were extremely active and alert and were constantly managing the swimmers and beach goers. There are showers to rinse off. Take your own beach umbrella and snacks/refreshments. Otherwise, there is a little beach café within a very short walking distance. Only one little suggestion: to have move rubbish bins on the beach/closer to the beach area.

The beach itself is fantastic. Spacious so you don't have to sit on top of one another and no rocks that could hurt your feet. No strong currents either. Unfortunately the walk from the car park to the beach is far. There is a take-out restaurant available.

A delightful and picturesque place to visit and in sight of Nahoon Estuary Nature Reserve. We enjoyed a swim in the Mermaids Pool (which can only be seen at low tide since the water covers the rocks, marking the outline of the pool, a tight tide) and making the acquaintance of lots of small and colourful fish. There is plenty of free parking and also toilets nearby, at the Best Beach Cafe which is closed on Mondays!

I can’t remember where I found Kevin Agram’s name for a guided trip while our ship was docked in East London, South Africa, but I am glad I did because he organized a fine experience for us. He passed us off to a local man - I am so sorry that I didn’t write down his name, but he used to work for General Motors but lost his job when the plant closed. He was terrific. He knew a lot about the area, the government, the social and political conditions facing the South African government. He took us around the city, to several townships, to a wildlife park that was closed on Mondays. We also went to the beaches and stopped for a pancake. It was a lovely day.

The beach was not really clean, but this was the least of the problem.
For a patriotic South African it brought tremendous sadness to me to see how the surrounding suburb has deteriorated. I was in East London in the late 70's and my latest trip was meant to be a trip down memory lane. I now wish, I did not go. This is not an attack on the residents. There was ample evidence of their attempts to maintain some measure of dignity. For me, the deterioration is solely due to poverty and unemployment. Nahoon beach can still be restored to its former glory.
The festive lights were beautiful when we were there .
