If you're traveling Route 66 and visiting the petrified forest/painted desert, don't miss Jim Greys Petrified Wood co. Located in Holbrook at the junction of hwy 77 and US 180 ( the hwy that goes to the south entrance to the park), this is the best selection of everything in the area. Plus, it's a free museum. Words cannot do... More

A friend told us to be sure and stop by here before entering the Petrified Forest National Park. It is a museum and a store and a science center. Lots and lots of inexpensive and expensive things to buy. My favorite part was the "back yard" where they had small rocks through huge petrified wood to buy. My husband bought... More

I have been a fossil collector for over 25 years and have serious doubts regarding the authenticity of many of their items (think China). Their petrified wood is overpriced as well. Skip this place.

This shop is truly amazing with a wonderful selection of stones and petrified wood to be purchased. You will probably see more petrified wood around this store than if you drive through the forest itself. The store also has a good selection of other souvenirs, including those for the nearby Route 66.

We travel a lot around the southwest US and seen a lot of rock shops I can't say enough about this place we have seen petrified wood but nothing of the magnitude and quantity Jim gray has. I actually would recommend stopping here first and spending time looking at everything they have including their museum area. If anything it will... More

his was a great shop with lots of souvenirs. It has also beautiful tables, lamps, and other home decor. It was large and well organized. We also got a free piece of petrified wood and a few fetishes of various sizes. Worth a stop. Some things are pricey but there are affordable choices. Be careful with children cause there are... We stopped to see if we could buy a nice specimen of local petrified wood to put into our cactus in Texas but any thing we found was out of our price range.. Don't get me wrong a nice enough place and very interesting just not affordable for a rock to put next to a cactus.

I have lived most of my 50 years of life near Holbrook. I have never really gone to any of the tourist areas around. I thought a rock shop sounded very uninteresting. I was very surprised at how interesting Jim Gray's rock shop was. This place has some beautiful petrified wood that has been polished beautifully. The large pieces are... More

Has a huge selection of minerals, rocks, etc. but is quite over priced. You can go to the Tucson gem and mineral show and get the same thing for half the price.
