I really did not want to leave St. Anthony's. This Greek Orthodox Monastery is a hidden gem in the Arizona desert. There are no signs to direct you there. There are no signs to tell you you are there. You just find it and you are there! Before entering all women are required to put on a long skirt and... More

Went on a day trip from Mesa to St. Anthony's Monestary. It was a nice drive out there. The first thing you see is a dazzling white chapel on a hill, Then the monastery parking lot. What an amazing place that was built by the monks that came from Greece. There are chapels, churches, fountains, orchards and quiet paths to... More

We visited St. Anthony's outside of Florence as a day trip from Mesa. The tranquility is amazing. The architecture in each of the chapels is so different. The monastery was only founded in 1995 and yet they have done so much. There is a dress code so check that out, don't worry ladies they have long skirts and scarves you... More

Sometimes you come across a spot that invites you to hang around and take in the gifts. Maybe it's a shrine, a national park, or a zoo. That's how it was at St. Anthony's Greek Orthodox Monastery. We stayed in an RV park in Florence, Arizona so we could visit the grounds for a couple days. We are not Orthodox,... More

Like visiting Greece. Jewel in the desert. No cost but you should visit the Gift store for great preserves and homemade bread. Check your attire requirements for the visit!!! The grounds are magnificent. Going there for my 4th visit tomorrow.

So glad a friend recommended visiting as we had not heard about it and there certainly were no road signs with directions. Beautiful chapels, grounds and such peaceful surroundings. Beautiful fruit trees and flowers. You have to buy their olives in the gift shop--delicious!! Especially with Feta cheese!!

We saw that a bunch of buildings were on the historic registry in Florence and drove out to see it without making a plan. I think we were too early as the doors weren't open but the outside was extremely lovely.

Amazing what can be gone in 20 years starting from scratch in the Sonoran desert and building four churches, store, dormitories for the monks, gardens, orchards and many other features! Just totally amazing dedication and beauty. Some 47 monks inhabit the monastery and have a thorough day and night praying, work and rest. Originally from Mt Athos in Greece. Self... More

Beautiful grounds with authentic architecture. We went in January and the weather was perfect, in the 70s. Amid the lush trees and shrubs and lovely buildings, chapels and fountains, the peacefulness is palpable. I felt as if I shouldn't talk much while there, just enjoy the ambiance. Take care to get the dress code right... long shirts, shirts with long... More
