Visited Wrangell May 3 to May 6 2017. We went with Alaska Vistas in their very fast boat. We travelled before the tourist season and there was enough water in the river to twist & turn our way up the most amazing river. The tides...More

Traveled with tour outfit out of Wrangell. Captain of the Chutine Warrior skillfully maneuvered around sandbars. We saw the blue ice at Shakes Glacier, river house boats, and jagged mountains. Charles Baxter

We travelled up the Stikine River in a jet boat to the Shakes glacier. Beautiful scenery on the way with great commentary. Lots of waterfalls, icebergs, and the glacier to top it off.

Alaska Waters took us up the Stikine River and we felt very comfortable with Jim and James as our Captain and guide (father and son). They guided the jet boat through tricky swift waters and up into Shakes Lake and Glacier. It was stunningly beautiful...More

a very scenic river with magnificent mountain & wilderness on both sides of the river. Snowcapped mountains on the far distant, calm waters. Good for sports fishing & cruising on a speed jetboat

We are planning a canoe trip late august 2015: Stikine River from Telegraph Creek to Wrangell. I have heard the motorized boat traffic can be frequent and noisy, which could spoil a wilderness trip. Any recent experience of this stretch of water? Also is there any reason a guide is needed for experienced paddlers? Is it easy to navigate on one's own?
