Unless you’re going fishing or taking a day trip on one of the charters, this is actually kind of a dreary place. The most memorable part of going there was going through the longest one-way tunnel in North America.

Before we took the PWS cruise, we did a walk along the harbor. Look how beautiful it is. It is like a fairyland.

Whittier is surrounded by mountains and it is beautiful. The town isn't pretty and there are only a few places to eat but we enjoyed the quiet non-touristy atmosphere. There is a nice campground on the end of the harbor that has a beautiful view.

Whittier Harbor area is lined with walking tour signs that explain Whittier’s WWII history and a great place to photograph boats arriving from Sport and commercial fishing trips. Its only an hour from Anchorage but a completely different climate and culture.

Fishing,shrimping,glaciers,waterfalls....very beautiful! We went on a cruise to Blackstone glacier then ate at the inn at Whittier. Quaint, rustic town!

After being in Seward we thought this might be another cute bay town. Nope. We went through the tunnel ($13) and hiked Portage Pass Trail which was worth the cost. Thought we’d get a bite to eat in Whittier before returning. Eek! This place was...More

There is no place that I know of and things move fast in Whittier, except waiting for the tunnel direction to reveres! Have you checked on the availability of purchasing a water package in advance from the cruise line?
