Plan ahead! This 2.5 mile tunnel is so cool! You need to line up and vehicles move through one way about every 30 minutes or so. The gal at the toll window said this is the longest tunnel in the us.

Plan ahead. The tunnel goes only one way so going toward Anchorage and one way toward Whittier. At times, you have to wait for the train to go through. It's about 2 miles, maybe a bit more. A bit dark, but not impossible. And it...More

This tunnel is one of those once in a lifetime experiences that takes you to somewhere you really do not expect - a town where all most the whole population live in a single building. Well worth the effort. The area has some interesting small...More

This engineering marvel cost $13 to Whittier, but free on the return. Currently the schedule runs on the half hour from Whittier, but verify the time before going. Don’t delay arriving to the tunnel where you wait in line before entering. Not sure if there...More

Trip was quick and painless, truly a unique experience. Well managed and maintained. Weather is quite diffrent on the other side if it's a low cloud ceiling.

This is an amazing 2.5 mile long one way tunnel that takes you to Whittier, Alaska which is a very small town. It costs $13 for a car to go thru it. Going into Whittier the tunnel is open on the 1/2 hour and leaving...More

The Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel was a one of a kind tunnel. Travel thru the tunnel is on a scheduled basis. The tunnel is a one way at a time adventure. On the hour, traffic travels from Whittier. On the half hour traffic goes into...More

This is an interesting and historic tunnel. I would recommend a drive thru even if you don’t have a need to go to Whittier. Our teens even looked up from their devices:) I would recommend a drive thru have breakfast or lunch at the hotel...More

if you wanna get into, or out of, Whittier you MUST pass through this tunnel... unless you fly or arrive via boat. Because it is just a single lane (sometimes also shared with trains), the direction of traffic alternates on half-hour intervals. The process is...More

Why not? A driver you contract will take you anywhere you want to go, as long as you pay the toll. You pay the toll to get into the Whittier area, but not to leave. Are you going to Whittier or just driving through the... More

The tunnel opens at 6:00 a.m. leaving Whittier and every hour after that. They only allow so many through the tunnel to make sure it is clear for traffic coming into Whittier on every half hour. The toll to drive through... More

I just traveled through there and your motor home will have no problem. The train travels through this tunnel in between vehicles so there is plenty of room.
