There's a well made path to the glacier - an easy walk. The downside is the mosquitoes attacking when you walk through the bushes. We stopped before we reached the glacier, but if you're not bothered, this is a wonderful opportunity!

From far away the Glacier is beautiful but much is lost when viewing it from the visitor's platform. It has receded so much it is barely visible. Other Glaciers are far more impressive, for example, Exit Glacier near Seward or Mendenhall. But it is worth...More

You can actually drive pretty close to the glacier. We were there in May. There was still too much snow for us to drive up close to the vehicle.

A nice hiking adventure after a long day in a car. Has some path ways but a lot of time you can make your own paths. They had climbing and just normal walking. Being able to get really close to the glacier is extremely cool...More

The glacier is disappearing, but you can still hike up to be close to it, roughly a mile from the parking lot, maybe a bit more. Have fun.

Of course you have to stop to see this glacier. It's an easy, paved walk to a glacier. The restroom facilities were CLEAN! There are information signs. Great place to take a break.

Fun to explore and climb near the glacier, but be aware hat help is not real close if you get into trouble.

Any time you can see the glacier clearly is a god time. The weather in Thompson Pass can change quickly so it can be lousy 1 hour and be nice the next. Watch Valdez weather and if is clear there, take a drive up the pass... More
