Amazing to see how a colony started by a religious prophet with nothing started this self-sufficient community. They grow vegetables, chickens, pigs, vanilla, extract salt, fish. the goal was to re-create the garden of eden. they may have done it.

We saw this place as part of our tour, and I found the companion planting aspect of most interest along with the organic aspect. Of key interest is that in passing the pigs, they didn't smell AT ALL. I've never experienced this in my life,...More

Took a tour with Pension Hotu guides. This is a private island owned by a religious organization. One needs a permission to tour the island and learn how they raise their animals and grow their fruits and vegetables to feed their family and their religious...More

This was a cool place to visit where the people are living off the grid and growing/raising all of their own food. It's a beautiful, sustainable location and an informative tour.

You will book a tour for the day to discover among other things this Chinese "motu", where they grow vegetables and fruits, apparently without any chemicals. It looks like a perfect community but I believe it is more a sect than other thing, and the...More

Definitely cool to see. It's part of the one day tour (which I wouldn't skip), and they bring you here to check out their spot and possibly buy some of their goods. But, it is very weird. Fascinating, but obviously religious fanaticism. They are friendly...More

I felt ad during the whole visite. Between religion, autarky, consanguinity, sect... I m still not even sure of the legality of this population and the reason of this visit

I was a little shocked at all the criticism towards this lovely group of Christian believers who are providing wonderful organic vegetables that we lucky travelers are fortunate enough to eat. Seriously? Anyone get in your face and try to convert you? The unpleasantness is...More

I am interested in the religious beliefs of homo sapiens. Here I saw a few families living in accordance with the highly ecological beliefs of a Taiwan-based leader of this Christian sect. It was part of a day organized by Chris O'Callaghan founder of the...More

I think most of the other reviewers sum up this attraction well; it's a short-ish tour, moderately interesting at times, of a group of people who do subsistence farming. Save your time and visit a farm back home, Tikehau is way too beautiful to waste...More
