An oasis of tranquility by the canal, this is the charming neighborhood of Passagem. Forget everything you think or have heard about the bustling Cabo Frio. Now, imagine a place where it is possible to have a beautiful beach atmosphere, in the midst of historic houses, old cobblestone streets and alleys, with the refinement of excellent hotels, bars and restaurants in an incredibly bucolic atmosphere.

Very nice area which looks to have been reformed over the past few years. Was probably very run down but now people are reforming the area with great restaurants and hotels (Hotel Solar do Arco is one such reformation and is a spectacular hotel).

Historical corner of Cabo Frio with cobbled streets and whitewashed buildings set beside the canal. Also has water taxis to nearby Japanese Island.

This is a family neighborhood with beautiful historical colonial architecture, full of restaurants with different cuisine to choose from, and hotels such as the Solar do Arco and others, usually located right by the water. It is close to the Canal do Itajuru which connects the ocean to Araruama Lagoon. The view of the canal is one of my favorites in Cabo Frio. You can enjoy the flights of different birds, watch the colorful boats and canoes anchored by the shore. From the shores of the canal at Passagem neighborhood you can get a water taxi that will take you to the famous Ilha do Japonês, Island of the Japanese, close by. Passagem is truly a beautiful place to visit.

like its name says this neighborhood is a passage between the sea and the bay. It's dotted with restaurants and shops as well as most of Cabo Frio's medical establishments. Stick to the plazas and winding streets but use it as a route to your destination during the day. At night, lots of festivities in the vartious squares

It is a neighborhood from the 1600's years. Its architecture and streets are all preserved and cared. There are a lot of nice and fancy restaurants and bars around, and also a beautiful view of the Canal do Itajuru. Nice hotels and beautiful people on the streets.

Interesting place to walk around but it's rather small and very village feel to it. Has several good restaurants around.

The Passagem neighborhood is where the city of Cabo Frio started to develop. The Portuguese architecture is predominant which gives to the neighborhood that "old times feeling". Besides the architecture, it has lovely pubs, restaurants and bars around. Very good to with friends, family or your partner.

The walk through the neighborhood is pleasant. There are centuries-old houses, some well preserved, in the city's oldest neighborhood. There are good restaurant options on site. There is no charge for entry. It's worth checking out.
