While in Turkey we planned a couple days out to break up our holiday, the trip to the tombs was part of our plan. It turned out to be a great day out. We booked the trip with a local business just down from our hotel. Tom Jones and Ramos who are situated just down from the Marcan resort hotel,... More

We visited the tombs as part of a day trip from Marmaris with Thompsons. The trip included a visit to some mud baths, a river trip past the tombs, a sail through the turtle sanctuary and a visit to the beach. Of the for the tombs and the river trip were the best bits. The light in the afternoon lit... More

We went today, 25th Sept 2015, but the tombs are not open to the public. There is a brand new walkway, with telescopes, ticket offices and litter bins, but not a soul in site! You could hop through the cemetaery for a good , and free look at the tombs though. Our B&b owner says that they have never been... More

Even before you reach the sandstone cliff faces with the rock tombs you know that you are in a special place. Without doubt the best way to approach this historic sight is by taking a boat trip along the river from Sultaniye across the lake and then into the Dalyan river delta. The river flows through massive reed beds and... More

The Lycian Rock Tombs preside over the waterfront and river in Dalyan providing a spectacular backdrop to the town's environment. The tombs are not directly accessible to visitors and can only be enjoyed from a short distance away, but what a visa when you are enjoying a meal or drink or even a river cruise!

If you accomodate in a hotel, you should choose the hotel which has view of king graves carved at rock in Dalyan, also dalyan's lake at the same time. Visiting is prohibited for human. Only you can watch and take photo from the boat that can be hired daily.

We loved seeing these tombs carved into the mountain side. They are visible from all angles along the river and out to sea. If you visit, make sure its early in the morning during summer because the cliff face gets very hot indeed.

Several years ago we visited the kings tombs with our children. We climbed to them and found out we could not enter the tombs. Climbing was difficult and maybe not possible these days anymore?
