Giang Ta Chai Village is a path for trekking when you are in Sapa. You can stay overnight in Tavan and take a trip to Giang Ta Chai and Supan. Less touristic like Cat Cat or others

Hiking from Sa Pa we originally planned to stay in Ta Van for the night as all tours do, but we arrived in Ta Van after 2 hours of hiking and were pretty shocked by the tourist infrastructure there. We decided to go further and were rewarded with some of the most beautiful views, meeting almost no tourists and got an insight into living in a Hmong village. Take the walk through the bamboo forest if you have some time left. The views are superb and you'll pass by a larger waterfall on the way to the village. Take a bath if you feel like. Then you can search for a place to stay, there are some homestays around. We were looking for the "real deal" and asked a woman from the village about a place to stay. Staying with "May", was one of our highlights within traveling 9 weeks through asia...

May ("Maie") told us it's just a simple place, no toilet, no shower but we just wanted to see it. Her house was behind a river and we had to climb a low wall to reach it, it was worth it. She prepared a simple bed out of rice straw on a bamboo mat for us, including a mosquito net. We then had dinner with her and her Kids and she told us everything we wanted to know about her and the life in this small village. Her english was pretty good and she was so nice. It felt a little adventurous at first but was an amazing experience I don't want to miss. She did not ask for more than 5 USD per person for the night, including two meals and an invaluable experience.

If you're in Sa Pa and you let her know one or two days in advance she could possibly pick you up there and guide you to her hmong village "Giang Ta Chai". She is not accomodating on a regular basis, so don't expect the same level of service but a great experience. It's a way to support the local people instead of tourist agents. I asked May for her number to pass to others: 0163 4960 457

We had our driver take us to a village and this was his choice. We had just arrived and were walking down the main street, when we came upon a wedding reception at the groom's house. We were invited to come in and celebrate; offered food, grandmother doing the cooking, and some great rice wine. They were so hospitable and we didn't want to leave. We walked through the village, watching locals make there products and talking to them, through the guide. They were keen to tell us about their lives and how they made a living, all with the intend of getting us to purchase their products, which we did. Very friendly people, and a nice easy day wandering around.

I would recommend to stroll to Giang Ta Chai village via Lao Chai and Ta Van without a tour, otherwise you might be waiting for people, who are not fit enough all the time. I would advise to find a local person from one of the villages around and make a deal for 200-300.000 dong that he/she will take you to Giang Ta Chai without paying to every "toll booth" on the way. And take only one guide, otherwise you have to pay to all of them an equal amount. It is better to start walking towards the villages early in the morning, when it is not so hot. You may need 2-3 hours to get to Giang Ta Chai. You may even go further, if you are fit enough. But on the way back it is better to take a motorbike from Lao Chai back to Sapa. It should cost around 50.000 dong (2-3$).

Would thoroughly recommend this for a trek through the villages. Very colourful and the locals tribes are very friendly. There are lots of ethnic crafts and stalls and very interesting things along the way. The scenery is spectacular. Awesome place for photos.

I booked a trekking tour through The Sapa Sisters and was interested in heading as far out as possible to et away from the tourist packed areas.

I would highly recommend going to this beautiful village and hiking down the waterfall- an amazing experience.

If you're looking for a tour guide to take you (you'll need it, definitely can't find this place on your own!) I would suggest the Sapa Sisters - our tour guide Su (pronounced Zu) was amazing!

That's very well worth a trekking tour to visit Giang Ta Chai village from Sapa center. Scenery & the life here was very peaceful with friendly local people. Visiting small school will be a great experience!
