The Chau Doc Market has two areas. There's a newer construction right along the river and an older part back in the side-streets toward the mountain. We went through both not so much because we were interested but because we were just killing time. These are just normal markets like you'll find all across the country. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't visit. It just means that tempering expectations is wise. This isn't the floating market...

I found mr. Chinh (it means number “9” in English), he was good in French and comfortable in English showed me around Chau Duc from Market to Tra Su Forest, Temples to Mountains and the country side, it was great having him in such a remote place and am lucky to have him. If you may need him, you can reach him on 094 5833954 or 037 6171611. Hope it’s really a worthy trip visiting all places with your own language speaking guide and being too cheap is of extreme convenience. Hope this helps the traveler in this remote location.

Thursday 10th January and we were staying the night in Chau Doc and we walked the short distance from our hotel to visit this market. It was definitely for locals and there was nothing there that we were interested in buying.

It was an experience to walk along the narrow streets with stalls, on either side, selling fruit, vegetables, clothing, accessories and a variety of other items.

The streets were not the cleanest and found it a bit dangerous with motorcycles driving down the centre of the road.

Worth a visit if nearby would not make special trip to see.

Bustling market not for the faint hearted . So much on offer and so much to see. Need to watch out for the cycle traffic!! Very friendly marketeers and given time communication is not an issue. Could have spent longer there just soaking up the atmoshere.

Tried to find some fresh fruits and nife with my son.
Some people can say it is dirty and not organized well but that is the real local market I want to visit wherever I travel.
People is kind and calm.
Communication is not a big problem if you have a will to understand.

My siblings and I want to try street foods, and we found the best bun rieu with crab paste inside Chau Doc Market. It located in the heart of the market, I highly recommend you to try.

I did a tour with Mr. Long to the Bird Sanctuary and Sam Mountain ($20), which was amazing. He knows so much about the local history. I ended spending the next two days getting to know Chau Doc better through him and his lovely wife. He’s also an english teacher and invited me to meet his students. I had a blast! They are such a kind family. I really encourage you to introduce yourself and go on a tour with him!
