We didn’t stay there but just went for a visit. There are lots or restaurants and hotels along the waterfront. One can hire a chair with towel and umbrella on the beach for about Rs.100 per hour! It is safe to swim in most parts with lifeguards on duty.Unsafe areas are clearly marked. There is lighthouse at the beach which one can also go and visit during certain hours.

We stayed just across the beach. A happening beach with lots of options for eating sea food and other Indian and continental food. Christmas time made it more enjoyable. Walk along the pathway in the evening is a pleasure. Stay by the beach to enjoy. In the morning join the fishermen in pulling the nets, a unique experience. For genuine spices and tea visit “Assam Tea House and Kerala Spices”.

Well worth a visit if your in Kovalam.
Lovely views in and around the lighthouse. 50 R entrance for foreigners and 10 R for photos using your phone. You can go up to the top of the lighthouse but must leave your shoes in booth at the bottom.

Amazing place with beautiful views! The entry is just 20 Rs and you can go all the way to the top of the light house. There is a little cafetaria with tea, coffee and snacks that also has fantastic view. Absolutely worth visiting.

Breezy, vibrant yet serene. Absolutely the highlight of my trip to the Trivandrum region. The lighthouse is a must do as it offers bird's eye view of both Kovalam and Vizhinjam beaches. The streetside is also lined with nice eateries and massage parlours. The perfect way to wind down!

Strange title?, not really, this is a great seaside beach. However, visitors from outside India should be aware this is not the Mediterranean shores and the wearing of mankini’s,bikini’s and other such garments will attract a lot’s of attention of all kinds.
Back to the beach, it’s now well populated with local tourists, with families playing on the waters edge with the backdrop of the many restaurants catering to all budgets and tastes. Try this place it’s very much alive and kicking.

Neat & clean beach
Good water sports activities
It's got a whole line up of cafes, bars & restaurants overlooking the beach providing a perfect view of the ocean
There are also a lot of good budget hotels that provide beach facing rooms

Been coming to this beach for over 10 years. But this year the experience has been pretty awful. Constantly have phones thrust in face taking pictures. Anyone on beach lounger will have men walking up and down taking photos. Beach lounger guys do their best to try and stop this and tourists ask why are you taking my picture but too many to stop.

WHY DO So MANY INDIAN MEN DO THIS???!!!!What are theses photos for?????????

In many western cultures taking pictures of naked children is illegal and not acceptable so having phones and cameras taking shots of partly clothed or naked tourists children is so offensive and worrying for parents. So sadly last time spent in Kerela and we will be renting a house in Sri Lanka for a few months next year instead.

The beach is so lovely and kids had enjoyed a lot. Need to go in the evening so as to avoid intense heat. Food is good and need to roam a little bit to get the best dish. Live fish masala wrapped in Banana leaf was the best dish which we had loved.

Nice place to visit with family.
