Was keen to go inside this cathedral, so much so it was the first place I visited on my trip to Tianjin. It is on a back road behind a row of big name shops. It was closed when I arrived, and seemingly had very limited opening hours so I didn't manage to go inside which is a shame. A beautiful exterior none the less.

This church offered a good halfway stop for walking between the Five Great Avenues area and the Porcelain House. The church is well appointed and cool inside. It is free to enter the church area. I wouldn't say to go out of your way for the church but it was a convenient stop for us while in Tianjin.

There are some shops and cafes across the street including a Starbucks with a second story that has a good view of the church. Closest metro station is Yingkoudao. Plan to spend maybe half an hour here.

The church is beautifully preserved and lovingly cared for.

Even though I only speak about 30 words of Chinese, the volunteer assistant at the entrance & I communicated simply and laughed together.

A happy experience which I shared with my Chinese friend.

A beautiful church in the centre of downtown built by the French in then XIX century.

They held masses everyday in Chinese at 6am and 7h30am and in English on Sundays at 11h30am.

St Joseph’s is a very well preserved Catholic Church in Tianjin that serves the small local Catholic community. Off to the side you can make a modest donation and light a candle. There is also a small stall with religious items again at very modest prices.

St Joseph’s Cathedral (aka, Xikai Church) has both a very beautiful façade and interior. On the outside, I like the colour pattern of the brickwork. The church was originally built over the 1913 to 1916 period and required significant rebuilding in the 1980s to repair and replace parts destroyed in 1966 by the Red Guards and the Tangshan earthquake of 1976. I like the light pastel colours (possibly because I am partial to blue) of the interior. They make for a bright church on the inside. At the far end from the altar, there is a beautiful organ.

A great and open church. You can visit and take a spiritual rest. Many paintings displaying the life of Jesus Christ.

If you already been to Europe or from there, honestly here has nothing to visit. From the outside looks good, but when you walk in, I am disappointed.

The church has been maintained incredibly well and offers a nice break from traditional Chinese architecture.
