The woods

The views and the forest are breath taking! Nice trails and I found some painted rocks while walking. Great history information.

I love this place. Trails are well kept. Views are great. My favorite Alaska city park. Never crowded. Little hard to get to from downtown if you do not have a car.

Great place for a relaxing walk or hike. Has places to sit and enjoy the scenery. Good mix of up hills, down hills, and flat terrain. Breath taking views of ocean and the wild life. If you're lucky you can even see wales out at sea. Been a handful of times and have yet to come across a bear, but... More

My son is a WWII fanatic so we had made plans to visit the Museum after finding it on the internet. We were pleasantly surprised by the exploring we got to do in the State Park. It was unbelievable to stand in the bunkers that still exist in this State Park and look out over the water and reflect on... More

This park was a find we ran across while sight-seeing on the island. Beautiful trails to hike on, got to see bald eagles and a couple of bear tracks- but no bear! The historical remains of Ft. Abercrombie give a historical lesson on the area and its significance in WWII. Beautiful views off the bluffs of the ocean, well worth... More

Many folks are unaware that the Japanese occupied several islands in the Aleutian chain during WWII and it was feared that Kodiak could be a target. So the island was heavily fortified.Fort Abercrombie was a central part of this although it turned out not to fire a shot in anger. The main bunker is now a fascinating military museum but... More

Our B&B host was going hiking here and offered to drive us out - she and a friend are very familiar with the park and gave us great information. We spent several hours hiking and sightseeing - great views and lots of history from WW II. Well worth a few hours if the weather is okay.

We enjoyed the views from the bunkers. We spent less than 1 hour there. The museum was closed when we were there.
