About
The oldest bar in Ketchikan! Est. in 1937. We are a waterfront bar with a covered deck for an outdoor experience. We have 19 draft beers on tap and the best bloody Mary's in Alaska! We are locally owned and operated. Come down and meet Paula who has owned the bar for the last 22 years. She's a hoot!

This bar extends over the water right where the cruise ships dock so is an excellent place to people-watch if you are sitting on the covered patio. It was very busy during our visit, and there appeared to just be a single bartender for the entire place. She was working hard but not everyone was happy about how long it took to get served. We did finally get our drinks and sat down at one of the only open tables on the patio. The sign outside the business advertised $3.50 beers, but I think the only one at that price must have been the happy bear house beer since everything we ordered costed considerably more.

I recently had the pleasure to visit the Arctic Bar as an excursion piece of a cruise. It was the owner’s birthday (Miss Paula). She was as welcoming as she could be. I noticed a t-shirt I wanted to buy for myself and my sons. She was out of that particular style, but said if I paid for them she would ship them. I made a cash transaction with no receipt, which I questioned way after the fact. To my pleasant surprise, the shirts beat me home. Restored my faith in human nature. Thanks Miss Paula!!!!!

First visited about 10 yrs ago and was worried it might not have survived. Pleasantly surprised to find the home of the happy bear still thriving. It was the perfect stop for successive waves of Carnival passengers waiting for tender line ups to go down. Lots of joking from the bar to the dock. It’s just a short walk from all 4 berths and worth a visit!

Went to the Arctic Bar, as my employer is the Arctic Club Hote Seattle, so decided to visit a namesake during a 7-day Cruise through Alaska. It was off the beaten path, but well worth the walk ! Didn't get to meet Paula. the owner of the "Home of the Happy Bears", but we did exchange some items with our similar name ? It was a pleasure AND the Bloody Mary was worth the visit !

Being the last ship of the season into Ketchikan didn't dampen the spirits of the nice bartender. The Bloody Mary with pickled asparagus was just what I needed to start the day.
Appreciates the discussion and the swag purchase will help us remember this great bar for years to come.

What a great place to stop for some refreshment after a day of exploring Ketchikan! There is an outdoor area and also an indoor area which we chose enjoying the outdoor area with it being such a beautiful day. We absolutely LOVED Paula, one of the owners who was so welcoming and great to talk to. The prices are good especially happy hour and food great too! We stopped by everyday we were in Ketchikan!

I stopped by on recommendation of my tour guide. Really loved the place and the lady serving went out of her way to make me feel welcome as a tourist new to Ketchikan, a locals haunt with lots of fun banter between all passing through on their way home from work.
Actually makes the bland dismal unfriendly service at my hotel bar I’m now at make me wish I’d have ventured out this evening. Oh well go to the Artic, it’s a really decent spot with a fun vibe.
A pool table, a nice deck overlooking the dock, and very good prices. As local as it gets the other side of the tunnel.

Need an ice cold beer before getting back on board your cruise ship? Gotta stop here. Excellent beers and a staff that is hilarious. If you can't have fun here, you just can't have fun.

The Artic Bar is open!....Just four days prior to our ship docking....Owner Paula has done a fantastic job of updating, it looks great....Great view of the water and the location was a very easy 5 minute walk from the cruise ship....Would go back in a heart beat....Must stop if in Ketchikan

Hi - I am not sure - it was my first time there. I think they have a Facebook page and they might be able to answer that for you there. Good luck and keep traveling!

The Arctic is located directly off of Berth 3 on the cruise ship docks. The back deck faces Berth 3 - right next to Sockeye Sams and across the street from Burger Queen.
