Very small but well worth visiting. Excellent selection of Native American artifacts with complete explanations. Videos were well down as well. Better than spending entire time buying Chinese made crap.

Thanks for visiting the Tongass Historical Museum! We currently have "upholding balance", a temporary exhibition exploring Northwest Coast art over the century. With our main floor renovation now complete, we'll be opening our new permanent exhibition on Ketchikan's history and heritage in late April 2018.

We were drenched out of our planned excursion to take a float plane while in town so we were happy to be able to visit this small museum..... the one room was chock full and the film was informative..... not expensive, so worth the fee....

It was very disappointing. Was hoping to see some of the original artifacts. Only saw modern reproductions and it was very limited. Had a video of someone doing a dance. Not in costume and it was being done in a dance studio. They do charge...More

In fact there are many original artifacts currently on exhibit at the Tongass Historical Museum, including original cedar bark and spruce root baskets dating back to the early 1900s. What you refer to as "reproductions" are original art from over 80 Native artists with ties...More

My teen son and I both felt that the one room was worth the $3 entry. It was well-curated and one room chock full of artifacts and art. The juxtaposition was well executed and we enjoyed a solid half hour viewing it all. Photos are...More

This museum should be free. Its small and the artefacts are not as good as others we visited. My advice is not to bother.

The museum has t its limitations as it only deals with Totem poles but it does educate on the reasons and meanings of the various figures and how each area had slightly different designs etc. This may not be a long visit but the entrance...More
