While in Juneau we had some extra time and decided to visit the hatchery. I am certainly not an expert on how hatcheries should function but it was super clean, educational, and from the looks of it successful. You really don’t need to book a tour unless you don’t have transportation. It only cost 5.00 and you just drive up, go in and buy a ticket. It is a nice place, I think children would really enjoy it too.

The hatchery is great place to learn about the complete life cycle of the salmon. You can see the fish in all stages. If it's the salmon run season, you might even be able to see them come up the hatchery's salmon ladder! Admission is reasonable - check out their website- the gift shop was filled with various local salmon products. If you have the time, it's worth a visit. You do need transportation since it's outside of downtown.

Very interesting to learn about the cycle of Salmon. The videos and displays are very informative. The aquarium is fabulous with all the different species and there is a touch tank. Nice little gift shop and just watching the Seals outside was entertaining. Staff are very informative and eager to answer any questions

This is only $5 and a must see. Beautiful aquarium, one of the best. View the salmon swimming up the fish ladder. Allow an hour. Kids would love it. Touch tank too.

Somehow this place never appeared on my radar until my Uber driver pointed it out to me and I asked him to stop.

We were there at 7am and the hatchery hadn't opened yet but we did get to see the chum aka "dog" salmon swimming up the ladder and into a holding pool. We stood there for literally an hour just watching the fish. Later my friends went paid the $5 admission and went in. They said it was very cool.

So even if you can't go inside be sure to stop and just take in 10,000 salmon swimming.

Go here if only to watch the eagles fight over the salmon at the beach; you are just steps away from them and it’s an amazing experience!
